Well, I was sitting around, 3 Harlequin Rasboras helping to cycle the tank... One jumped out! Luckily I was nearby and managed to pick him up from the floor and stick him back in!

It's made me really paranoid, I didn't even know they were a type that had a tendency to jump!

I've stuck a textbook on top for now to cover the gap :|

The water is about an inch below the top of the tank, here's a pic of the gaps around the lid;

Thought I'd go ahead and try this after a seemingly knowledgeable man in my LFS advised it to me.

Tank currently has 2 Java ferns (I think) and 2 moss balls. Heater at 30 degrees C and a simple spray bar filter.

20L tank, 17ml of Tetra Safestart added.

Here are the readings after approx. 1 hour from my Nutrafin kit:

pH: 7.75

Ammonia: 1.2

Nitrites: 0.1

Nitrates: 7

3 small hardy fish will be added tomorrow, as per directions (probably cloud minnows).

Any feedback?

Here is what I don't understand. During the day, he has the rings around his eyes and his eyes seem slightly enlarged, but at night, you can barely see the rings and his eyes look fine. Then, in the morning, the eyes are enlarged and have rings again. Can anyone explain why this happens?

Hi!

I was wondering if my aquarium was big enough for my male Betta fish, with the "gallon calculator" (or something like that) that i found on this site, it turns out that my tank is a 1.58 gallon tank,

however, i heard that my fish needs a 5 gallon tank... (which i believe will be too big for my room, and my parents were against the idea of me buying a fish, so i won't have too much of their support either...).

Here are some pictures of my tank:

Strawberry seems very protective of his bubble wrap and keeps flaring up his fins/tail when Curly looks in his side! Casper ...

Only downsides I could see would be no lid, but could order a piece of plexi-glass for that and of course add an heater

so I picked up the red/orange ct I fell in love with but didnt get the other day. I had him in a tank that was quite high. Now he seems to struggle to swim to the surface in it. So after some juggling about he is now in a longer tank with water about 6 inches deep and a heater and seems happier. It could just be the size of his fins that is causing him trouble. He is flaring and eating. I havent had cts before is this normal for them to struggle to swim with their extended finnage?

Hello

Wondering what is involved in P&P of fish as might be sending some females to a member for her sorority.

I have boxes lined with polyboxes from receiving fish, so would I just need to buy a heat pack, double bag fish and send via next day delivery? I'd pack each betta in a diff bag in case they get nasty during transit, but is that the basic jist of it?

Recently I got a single plant of frogbit for my betta tank. It is growing like mad putting out new plantlets, but as soon as I put the plant in, the older leaves started to rot away.

I know that it is normal for many aquatic plants to shed their old leaves when you move them to a new environment, but the problem is this - as fast as new leaves and offshoots are growing, the older leaves are rotting away. It's not getting a chance to spread, because as soon as a new leaf pops up, an old one ...
