Which Tank to Choose?

Post by LizzieDee on Tue Aug 04, 2009 6:43 am

Hi,

A newbie here, looking for some advice please.

I'm planning to keep a Betta and have spent a couple of weeks reading up on everything I can find to ensure the best start possible for my new friend. Now I'm stuck on which tank to buy. Finances are a little tight and I have more or less narrowed down my choice to the following:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
or
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
or
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I think they all require the addition of a heater.

Does anybody have any other recommendations in this price range or is one of the above 'perfect' or should I be looking at something else entirely? I'd like to put a couple of corys (or similar) in with my Betta?

Thanks for any advice - I'm sure I'll be back with plenty more questions once I get going!

Lizzie

I have the aqua 40 tank, 2 of them, they are great tanks. Loads of room for a betta, plants, decor items etc, my Loki loves it, very happy in there.
The filter is good. Fine for a betta.
The lights are fantastic, very bright,, lights the whole tank evenly, you get 2 x 11w tubes, one white one blue and they are amazingly good. I just bought a bigger tank for my minnows , made by Juwel, lovely tank but its lights are nowhere near as good as these, not even close.
It is very well made and the finish is excellent. I have not had an issues with either of mine, love and would buy them again. Both of mine are in black and lok really smart

That price is good for it too, I paid £55 for each of mine at my LFS 2
months ago. The one on the site is the older model, I have the newer
one with aquaflow 100 filter and the front and sides are all one curved
piece of glass, no seams at all. I guess that may be why the price is
cheaper there, they are clearing the older model. I would guess the
quality is the same though. That one seems to have just one light, the newer one has two.....might be worth searching for the newer one if the lights are important to you, though I think 1 x 11w will be fine for a betta......do a search for the newer one and you will see it has the curved front edges where there is no join on the side edges......

I have the aquastart 320 and I love mine. I don't have a betta in it now, but I used to.

You might want to check ebay before you buy - mine was nearly new and only £10!

Hi, i recently bought my daughter an aquastart 320 and it's brilliant! She's got the pink one, theres some pics of it here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Luckily i got it through ebay for a tenner so keep an eye out, there are bargains on there! I really like the other two tanks you've listed as well though!

Hi & hello1

We have an Aquastart 320 thumbup Ours didn't have the undergravel filter like the one in your link. However, an undergravel filter is absolutely fine for a betta as there is little flow. Just need to do very gentle gravel vacs every 6 weeks or so, just to remove the build up of debris. Ours is divided with a male each side:)

Those tanks look really lovely - Jodie must have loved hers - she certainly looked as though it was the best present in the world - what a lovely little girl and I hope she enjoys caring for her new pet.

3 votes for the Aqua 320; 2 for the Aqua 40 - they are quite a bit larger than my 3rd choice, the R331, so it's between the two I think. Rock Bottom Aquatics have confirmed that the Aqua 40 they are selling is the new shape and it's £39.99 + delivery (no Webbs near me). The Aqua 320 works out to £10 cheaper and it's only a short bus ride for me to Tropstock in Maidenhead so I shall probably go with the 320, although on the other hand perhaps it's the Aqua 40. Oh I don't know! Somebody tell me what to do - please Question

I'd better post my other questions in a separate post....

that is a great price for the aqua 40 if its the new one, as I said mine was 55 quid, the filter on the new one is great, it has a plastic holder for the sponge and you can buy cheap sponges off ebay and stuff it in there, lowers costs. The lights are real good too..........up to you........go on, which one you gonna go for......

Just to confuse you even more. This is another more recent pic of our aqua 320. We've also got the 500 which is 65ltr.

Well - I finally decided! Went for the 320. Simply because I followed advice ^^^^ and checked on ebay. Lovely tank for £10.00 :D

Can't wait 'til tomorrow to get all the makings to start the cycling. I had a wander round our nearby aquatic store today and saw some beautiful Bettas - wonder how long I can be satisfied with one Wink

LOL - You are SO bad! I don't think I could manage to do it and I don't know anyone that I could ask so I'll have to be content with one Betta in this tank.

It's got to be really simple for me to do it. I found the product by Googling but no exact instructions on how it's fitted - does it need glue etc?
