I thought they were fry at first! LOL but then we saw and they are mega cute, these ones did not have any info though so would love to hear on tank sizes etc, as the size of the fish is misleading when it comes to tanks!

Oryzias Javanicus (javanese rice fish)are just as cute with lovely blue eyes and only need a 2-3 gallons tank had a small group in my 30 litre with one of my male bettas worked really well
and to breed them is also easy they have a string of eggs and hang them on a plant
very very easy to keepand temps are upto 28 degrees

Re: Norman's Lampeyes??
ohhh those are tempting too. I have a 2.5 gallon...so small mini filter, is heater needed do they have a optimum temp? How many would you put in? I was thinking of getting a species only tank for the lampeyes but still unsure of their tanksize. The javanese rice fish do look nice though never seen them local! (note to self must look more!)
To be cheeky now, Daz do you have any?! LOL

Re: Norman's Lampeyes??
a little groups of 6 would do lovely iun there hun
lots of plants so they can dangle the eggs and they'll be happy
i've kept mine at 26 when with the betta and 20 when with the minnows (approx as no heater) did well at both temps
if Daz doesn't have them then a lot of the maidenheads do usually carry them they're usually less than £2 each and just sold as rice fish

Re: Norman's Lampeyes??
Thanks Modaz! Is that Lampeyes or Javanese as I am losing the plot lol! What are your recommmendations on both?
Would any go with betta in a 4 or 5g slot as thinking abit too tight, have the 10g with Calcifer and the frogs that could consider, just really like these fish lampeyes more but javanese are pretty cute as well but if the time is not right I can wait for my partner to decide on a community eventually.

Re: Norman's Lampeyes??
Just spoken with someone at DPs (dont think it was you Daz the other gentleman whos name escapes me!) He didnt think you had the lampeyes in stock and said could put in my 5g (not 2.5g) and about 10. Does that sound right and recommended? I am enthralled with these guys what does everyone think of the options?
1. 10g with betta and 2 ADFs, unsure how betta would react though
2. 5g lone species tank or a segment on my 14g (wouldnt mind trying these with Reno I think he would love them or pygmy cories!)
3. 2.5g which is tiny and not sure if fit for anything but possibly shrimp?
Please let me know what you guys think! Modaz if have some in an unseen corner and think would go in tanks please let me know and can pop down this week to get them as back to work next week (any day but wednesday me partners birthday).
Pippoodle did you mean 6 of either fish in the 2.5 gallon with lots of plants?? Think you meant javaneses??

AH! LOL sorry got mixed up
Two shops near here have the lamp eyes no javanese though.
What do you think on perhaps having these in with the 10g and betta to see? He does well with the frogs, have a 5g back up in case for small shoal of them

They are lovely little fish... hubby was enthralled by them, so I got 6 since he pays for all my fish stuff, lol. They share my 30 litre with Duilin.

Re: Norman's Lampeyes??
My store didnt have any clues about them and gave up the pretence once realised I had done my research and seemed relatively reassuring I kinda knew what I was doing (yeah right)! I think going to add 4 more to the batch if the results continue to go good on tank readings, then will get them weekend.

Re: Norman's Lampeyes??
Well we are on day three and Calcifer is completely unbothered by them
He may give a half hearted chase but it seems more something to do and he goes inspects them occasionally. He has been a very good boy and hopefully not missing the frogs too much! Loving the lamp eyes only got a darting pic which may load later, you will only get the gist though!
Heres the bluriest ever as they dont stay still!
