Fish ID - Apisto

Post by Assaye on Sat Aug 15, 2009 11:29 pm

What kind of apisto is this?

I'm thinking about stocking for my 23 gallon. Would these be appropriate? I'd really like blue rams so would these fellows be compatible with them? Would blue rams be OK in 23 gallons?

It looks like it is an Apistogramma Cacatuoides?

As for mixing the smaller cichlids, you may have some aggression problems in a 23g.

i have a trio of cockatoo apistos and a pair of goldne rams in my 120 litre tank - 30 inch and they get on fine now - there were territorial issues first nut after i introduced more plants and 4 caves so they could set up their territories they are fine now

so should be ok - just make sure its heavilly planted with plenty of caves hun

As Pip said, get a trio of cacatuoides or one male and 3 or 4 females and the best caves are coconut shells with just a nick out of them for a door big enough to let the male in. They spawn on the inside roof of the shell and and he will have 2 or 3 of the females with eggs and fry all at once.

cheers

I've a 55 gallon brimming with cichlids LOL.
Ours are fine, but the tank is very densely planted with plenty of caves/spawning spots(which is a regular occurance).

We've usually got ours in pairs rather than groups, the rainbow cichlids are in a group of 4 (2 males/2 females) and to be honest they cause the most hassle out of the whole tank during spawning. The dwarfs have luckily been really docile with each other and have each picked out their own spots.
