Algae *Sigh*

Algae *Sigh*
LOL seem to have algae outbreak at the moment. The small 5g I know is because it is under a window, I keep curtains relatively closed but it is the worst hit. My 14g has a small outbreak especially the gravel, unsure what to do as it is whiet and coloured mix and just looks yukky always, anyone? Its the three divided tank, should I scoop out as much as possible in a section at a time (putting the relevant boy in bucket with heater and give it a good rinse, or would it be best to just gravel vac or when can change it??? My 10g has the odd spot but seems to sparkle and my large 180 litre is super shiny. Odd how different tanks are affected, I guess my betta ones dont have much airflow which helps the algae to grow..

What colour algae is it? We get problems in some of ours with green hair algae. Probably down to very little water movement and higher temps.
Re: Algae *Sigh*
Mostly green hair on the glass of the two and then like a brown dusting on gravel and leaves. Thought it may be little water movement
What do you guys do on yours, just keep cleaning? lol

Yep....and more cleaning and scrubbing the plants and dividers and then a week later do it all again

Re: Algae *Sigh*
Yay! LOLThink tomorrows job is gravel cleaning! Trying to decide on sand replacement in that tank, anything better than the white gravel AH! LOL. So far I just clean around each of the bettas and occupants gently hope this is ok, doesnt seem to both the boys at all. Might move them individually tomorrow for a thorough scrub..hmmm..sorry mutterin! lol

They should be fine. We never remove any of ours for water changes and tank cleaning.....unless the gravel is coming out!!
Re: Algae *Sigh*
Ah thanks Netty! It always seems that tank with the algae grrr.. was thinking is algae less likely to form on sand? Also would more live plants help or hinder? As read somewhere could be low levels of CO2 or oxygen dependant on the type of algae..

We had huge problems with green hair algae in one of the boys tanks. Like yours it's by a window. We painted the back of the tank black with enamel (sp?) spray paint and algae be gone :D

Thw window one has backing, but clear see through lid. Going to put backing on one side and get non seethrough lid to sort that one out. The other one, will keep srubbing
