New male tank 3ft divided fonally complete

Post by pippoodle on Mon Sep 07, 2009 4:20 pm

here's my new male tank - not set up yet
Its a 3ft tank that has been divided by glass down the middle - it was a shop tank
It is going to be filtered by 2 fluval 1+ or U1 filters with tubing attatched to make it into a spray bar into all 4 sections on the glass divided sides
Either that or by a fluval 205 - with a y splitter to that it worls perfectly on both individual sections - not decided yet

i'm dividing it into 8 sections - each section will be approx 4.5"x11.75"x14"

Will post pics when its all up and running

Finally completed it

Cut the glass dividing section and added a piece of pennplaxx divider so water flows right through
filtered by Fluval 205 external filter

that really looks lovely. I am keeping a low profile at the moment over fish! Got a new microwave and it didnt fit on the bracket! So it had to go on a work surface in the kitchen! I had to squash the fish up even more. I got tanks everywhere! Then blow me if the platies decided to increase again!!

Looks like you've put a lot of effort into the tank, however personally i wouldn't have had so many sections, my 3ft has five sections and i think they're only just big enough for the fish to have a decent sized swimming space, but each to their own.

i was wondering how many gallons they had each.

i have a 3ft divided into five, 4 males with 5 gallons and a section for the girls with more (cant remember how many exactly)

With mine they have just under 5 gallons each as my tank is taller rather than deeper (from front to back). The point i was making is that a fighter would be happier with a wider swimming space as oppose to a deeper one, the deeper it is the further they have to swim to the surface to get air, also if the space is quite narrow they can't have a proper swim to stretch their fins and get some excersise. Thats the best way i can word what i mean, sorry if it doesn't make a lot of sense, and it's just my own opinion x

Oh im not saying they dont have enough water capacity, just that personally i like my boys to have a wider swimming area as opposed to a taller one

Its true that bettas do prefer to have width to their tank to swim rather than a tall narrow tank, I always like to see nice widely spaced dividers but Im also happy not to see bettas living in tiny tiny tanks or cups
