Cheap Penn Plax dividers

Post by Assaye on Mon Sep 07, 2009 10:13 pm

Anyone know where I can get a good quantity of these, in different sizes, fairly cheaply? I'm seeing them from £7-£12 and I'm sure I've seen them cheaper!

I need them to cover the following tank widths/heights:

24 cm x 23 cm (1)

29 cm x 32 cm (2)

29.5 cm x 28 cm (2)

Or any other divider that will do the trick.

Ooo, awesome Daz! I couldn't see any on your website but I think I'm just blind.

Will investigate DIY measures first but I really want this done soon.

I dont know if the craft grids would come big enough. I did my own divider and it drove me wild for ages until I bit the bullet and bought a penplax off Daz. My homemade one was just to unstable for my likings! the penplax have the clips which hold them in place really well. If they sell sizes that are too big for your tank you can cut them to size which is what I had to do!! sunny

The pennplax ones have blue dividers, have squarer brackets and also have sheeting with small round holes in from what can think of my ones at home. Liamg look homemade (looks nifty though!)

Found a budget solution - got a roll of plastic mesh from the garden centre. Looks fish-safe, as it's designed for something to do with plants so I figure it won't have any nasty chemicals in it. Was £12 so not super cheap but better than £5-6 a pop on dividers. Will need to stick a few sheets together to make it strong enough, but looks like it should work a treat. Will update when I've got them made (hopefully by the end of tonight!). I want my little boys out of their traps and back into their tanks.

Built my first divider this evening. Will post some photos tomorrow.

It's three sheets of this thin plastic mesh. I started playing with aquarium sealant and that was moderately successful, but I finished the binding off with fishing rod nylon. It's not very rigid on its own, but I reinforced the edges with paper binders to give it some strength and help it stand up. Finished off by digging it deep into the sand and building little banks around the bottom.

Rei and Ffin are loving the space and keep flirting with each other across the divide, bless! They are in a little 6 gallon (3 gallons each) but are only teeny so they actually have loads of space.
