How Many In a 42G

Post by Kizz on Wed Sep 09, 2009 7:08 pm

Well finally got my 112 Gallong set up and was just sitting looking at my near empty 42Gallon and had a brainwave . My females have been in the 17Gallon for over a week with no problems with the danio's harlequin's and black neons no nipped fin's ...Cept the black neons have a few nip marks lol .So i moved all my females(7 now :D) over into my 42Gallon .They are in with neon's black neon's,Harlequin's and danio's and some cory's too . How many more females could i add and is there any other tank mates i can add in with them

Cheers
:D

I would buy a nice big group of females from netty and bronze if they have them. first of all I know they always have healthy, pretty fish and secondly I have found that my girls that are sisters get along better, even if seperated and jarred for a while.

Completely agree with Newfishy. I got 10 females from Netty & Van and they get on fantastic. If you have a problem introducing more to your 7 remove them all for about 30 mins and move the decor around then add them all back. You'll have a lovely sorority with that many :D

i got 40+ girlies in my 300 litre tank - now i have that many i dont need to remove them when i add new ones - the new ones just sort of find their own place in the pecking order - havent had any fighting

only been trying it a week - adding the new girls and baby girls over and so far working ok
I think only because there are so many they arent that bothered about the new ones comming in

I have 3 dominant females that patrol the tank - they have their own areas and allow any other females in there but will chase away the other dominant girls - all other lower level girls can go anywhere in the tank

so apart from flaring and chasing occasionaly when the alphas get near each others alphas turf - there's no real aggression at all
