Budget Dividers

Post by lilacamy931 on Sat Sep 12, 2009 6:35 pm

You guys know I have been having issues between what to and what not to put in as dividers for my tank being an awkward cube shape so thought would share my findings with you as I am on an extreme budget.

For Pennplax ones I found this site:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Supers - 12 x 18" = £7.19 each for four for my tank inc postage would be = £33.71

So got my thinking cap on as almost eveything else for the tank found very good bargains to get on payday and this was the mostly costly thing for the tank.

So looking at Haberdashy Tapestry have found as equates below:
4 dividers - 10.5" x 13.5" for 0.99p each totalling with postage at = £ 6.05
Slide Binders pack of 10 A4 for £1.25 with postage = £2.05
Dow Corning Silicane Sealant 25g = £2.99

TOTAL = £11.09

It has been suggested that you need to be wary as these products are not made for fish use so you must be aware and it is your own choice at the end of the day. With the binders 4 will be sealanted together in a cross shape in the middle and four will be sealanted to the glass around the outsides of the tank. Another reason I went for these as didnt fancy the massive blie supports of the pennplax ones! I know it is silly but there it is! There will be 2 inch substrate, dividers will go little ways in, water will go up to 12" and there will be a 1.5" gap at the top to hopefully stop jumpers. The tank being 18" tall there will be about 2.5-3" gap free above the divides so nothing too much given away and the bettas will not be compromised with too much depth. Let me know what you think guys! I really had to pennypinch on this setup and also really really wanted this to be asthetically pleasing.

I still plan to have a checkerboard effect on the bottom half of the tank, wanted to get one seciton white sand and one black and vice verser on the back. Hoping to put Enigma my white CT in the section with black sand and Onyx who will be travelling to me shortly (if Netty still is ok to give him up!) in the white sand section. Unsure if the sand will spill too much into each other, but think can put up with this thumbup

I've had no ill effects from the use of plastic canvas in my divided tank. Smile

I was going to do a black and white tank too, but ran out of space, lol.
