Female betta flaring at her reflection in a mirror

I am conditioning two bettas male and female to spawn. and I put a mirror by the females tank to see what she would do and she flared at it. Why???

Girls can be very aggressive to each other. Even in a sorority tank, there can still be fighting and even deaths.

There are still fighting fish at heart and the girls have just as much spunk as the boy sometimes.

My girls flare at mirrors all the time.

if they flare and the frill round their face goes all the way round you are in trouble!
