Three new babes

Post by Assaye on Wed Sep 30, 2009 10:08 pm

Not putting these in Showcase as I don't have photos. Still need to get pictures of Matthew's boys, lol.

Got three girls from P@H, two reds and a purple. Unfortunately the purple died after a couple of days. Not sure what it was - she was very stressed and had been picked on, but nothing bad enough to kill her. When she died she had a blood build up under one eye. The other two seem pretty healthy though.

The new boy is from the isolation tanks at P@H (where I work). He had awful fin rot and wasn't at all happy. Figured he had a better chance with me than there as they only use 'Promed' there and it seems to do sweet F A. He's been getting regular doses of API anti-fungal meds and a low dose of Melafix (as the two can be used together). He seems to have really perked up and the physical signs of the fungus have gone. He's even got some regrowth =D Hopefully he'll be a really lovely blue boy if his fins grow back properly.

I have no space now, lol. Thinking of re-homing the new lad once he is better.

Once you have the male back to full health, you wanna take back to work and show them what it should look like:)

LOL.

I can't do much to change stuff where I work as it is all governed by wider company policy. The isolation tanks are all centrally filtered so they can only use a very limited selection of meds, and all the nasties get mixed up together. Apparently the UV sterilisation stops the spread, but I don't think it does enough. Most fish that go in don't come out again.

Apparently one of the aquatics staff was actually really impressed with me (or so he tells my other half). He's had a marine tank for 3 years and apparently some of the things I talk about go right over his head ^^ I only started fishkeeping in June.

That said, I do enjoy working there. It's just a bit soul-destroying at times.

There you go:) It just shows that it doesn't matter how long you've been in the hobby, its what you choose to learn that counts:)
