dwarf puffer extra info needed please

Post by pippoodle on Mon Oct 05, 2009 5:40 pm

I'm collecting 4 baby dwarf puffers from lfs weekend - 4 for £10 excellent price Smile
They are temp going in arc 35 litre them onto 75 litre when they get a bit bigger
I have read lots on them as hubby has wanted some for ages but just want some general tips from peeps who have owned them themselves - always find best info Smile

Tank is quite well planted - got more plants to add to it when rescue boy moves into other tank - also using a larger filter as only got a mini filter in there at the mo
here's the tank

Larger filter the better hon, as they are messy eaters, bloodworm was best food I found for them, when you first get them they need about 2-3 each, it is surprsing how big their bellies get! I found mine liked occasional pea, if you get those small snails coming in on the plants they love those. Keep an eye out as they get older as males may fight. Males will have blue eye wrinkles and a line down teh middle of their belly. Best ratio would be 3 females to one male but being juveniles you wont be able to tell at first.
One mo off to tea right back!

Right sorry about that. Feed them once a day and leave one day of rest, also be prepared for uber begging! More plants in that tank would be great as they are really inquisitive and need lots of line of sight broken up. Hope that has helped for the moment!

Even as youngsters they can be highly aggressive to eachother, so the sooner they go in the bigger tank the better. You may need to bulk the 35lt out with loads more plants cus they are proper gits.

Brill best of luck with them, they will be quite aggressive compared to other fish but they are absolute sweeties and you will probably get attached to them quite quickly!
