I thought I'd try it as i intend to use some big bits of bog wood. I dont usually use shop bought backgrounds, but this one caught my eye:)

Re: Some piccies of the 40g so far:)
Cheers :D
Now, I've been debating which way to cycle the filter
I cant clone from our other filters as they are too small LOL I dont want to do fish in
So that leaves Ammonia or additive
In the past i have used Stability to good effect :D So I'm going to give it another go. I have added the initial dose and will do water stat tests later. I will add the required amount for the next 7 days and publish the water stat test results daily. Sort of like a public test if you like :D

you can still clone from smaller tanks but just dont add loads of fish at once just add as much that is in the tank it was from and add a few fish every couple of weeks

Please do Van when I used Stability it only partially worked, had most of the cycle but the very last stretched obtained with fish in cycle (unfortunately due to timing) would be great to hear how yours goes, it also is probably the best option, best of luck!

Kizno - Its the tanks i take the media from that worry me
Amy - I have tried it on a filter crash/spike and it didn't work. But using it from day one it did. Cycled my marine tank in about 5 days :shock:

Re: Some piccies of the 40g so far:)
Ok, here's the first results after adding the Stability about 5 hours ago. Nothing too surprising at this point:)
First dose was 38ml
Ammonia = 0
NitrIte = 0
NitrAte = 0 (surprising as normally have 5-10 out of tap)

Update -
2nd Stability dose added at 5pm
Test results -
Ammonia = 0
NitrIte = 0
NitrAte = 0 (again surprising?)
The Ph tonight tested -
Api test kit = 7.6
Nutrafin test kit = 6.0 - 6.5 Somewhere in between, but deffo not the same colour as yesterday.

Re: Some piccies of the 40g so far:)
Oooh the tank is looking great, i also have the same background on my boys tank, my husband has it on his 4ft but the other side of it, the one with all the different plants. Can't wait to see it finished with fish in there!!
Re: Some piccies of the 40g so far:)
Took some samples of water to the lfs today to get them to test the ph.
Results -
Api = 7.6 (same as i was getting with my api)
Nutrafin narrow range test = 7.4
With my broad range Nutrafin test i was getting 6, so dont use them:)
At least now when i add some bogwood, the ph should come down to a reasonable level.
