Homemade medicated fish food.

Post by Assaye on Thu Oct 15, 2009 11:27 pm

Just lost a large number of
fish to columnaris. Disinfected the tank, moved the fish to a different
tank, medicated the fish as a precaution and disinfected all nets and
equipment. However, seems one of my two remaining female bettas is
developing that tell-tale mouth rot. It's only minor at the moment but
I'm already noticing a change in her behaviour. For some reason I'm
getting small spikes in ammonia and nitrites. Doing water changes as
necessary to keep levels at 0, but this obviously isn't helping the
fish fight the infection.

She
is being fed with brineshrimp soaked in garlic but I was wondering if
there were any meds I could use to soak her food in? Would this be
safe? I am treating with Myxazin. I also have some Melafix somewhere (I
think) and some API Anti-Internal Bacteria stuff.

Suggestions? How should I be treating this?

well, i tried soaking pellets in garlic for spike, he seemed to have a few yesterday Smile

From the response i got from 'the incident' i would put them in QT with an almond leaf (de-stress), also aquarium salt is beneficial, it will help fight away any disease, as when mixed in water the water becomes sterile.

But regular water changes are a must until you see some improvement.

Hope they get better soon Smile

This is a link to Daz's meds plan for Columnaris. Maybe worth a try.

Also, when you do the water changes make sure that everything that comes into contact with the water is thoroughly cleaned afterwards.

Everything is being sterilised in Milton between uses.

Lost all but one of my girls to this. I'm hoping little Aurora doesn't get it too.

They have salt, daily water changes, Myxazin, IAL and garlic soaked food.

KT also had a Myxazin bath and a salt bath, but still passed away.

This disease is horrible.
