the lfs store i went to (the one just opened recently) didnt do water tests, they havent finished everything yet, they had a pretty small fish section too! But the girls seem alright, they have there colours and no stress striped apafrt from the tinyiest girls!

Hmmm....if the new fish store dont do water tests, I would be questioning why? Virtually every fish shop offer water tests for their customers, even P@H! Its become one of the basic services, although i believe some shops ask for a donation (£1)
I'd stick to a more established fish shop if you can thumbup

Jasmine, just buy a kit yourself, it will save you alot of hassle, ammonia and nitrite are the most important IMO, so check Ebay, you will probarly get a good deal! So then you can check the water stats when ever you want! Smile

I can't i dont have enough money. i do have my own test kit, its an API one, but the booklets you got with them telling you how much to add to the testube got wet and the pages stuck together so its no use. I could get another booklet off ebay but there no point as my test kit has hardly any left.

The amount of drops are printed on the bottles. The instructions are also written on the back of the colour charts. The test tubes have a line on them indicating where to fill the water to.

Basically -
NitrIte = 5 drops then turn upsidedown a few times, then leave for 5 minutes.
NitrAte = 10 drops of bottle 1 then turn upsidedown a few times. Turn bottle 2 upsidedown and back for 30 seconds. Add 10 drops of bottle 2 and mix for 1 minute. Leave for 5 minutes.
Ammonia = Add 8 drops of bottle 1 then 8 drops of bottle 2. Turn the tube a few times and leave for 5 minutes.

NitrIte needs to show blue. Any purple and its high.
NitrAte can be yellow or orange.
Ammonia needs to be yellow. Any green and its high.

Since Violet possibly died, all the girls have been doiiong great its odd its like they liked it when thwere was 10 of them. Theyve all coloured up nicely and are starting to look alot healthier is it possible they like it just 10 of them?

I can't beleive how happy the girls seem theyve all got there colours coming through and are all active and happy! They could do with a few more plants but they absolutely enjoy the floating plants, i caught a few of them lying in there sides this morning asleep on the floating stuff, was cute! :D
