New Betta Tank

Post by Rezz on Fri Oct 23, 2009 2:51 pm

So as I mentioned before, a week or so ago I purchased a 60L tank off of ebay for £60, it included all necassary items, and even more unnecassary ones [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I have decided to split the tank into three sections for 3 more bettas.

Placing the tank on my desk

Dividers in, started filling with sand

Just filled with water and put in plants. Waiting for sand to settle now then will do more pictures.

Also the plants dropped a lot of bits on the sand so it looks really dirty, not sure on the best way to clean it all up short of siphoning the bottom and filling again -__-

First inhabitant, a marblegene VT boy from Pip should arrive next week [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

That's looking great. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Best way would be to syphon up the bits. If you use an airline then you should have to replace so much water. Obviously depends on how big the bits are too lol

Yeah I figured siphoning would be the easiest way to do it. My Dad's gonna help me siphon it all out (I can never get the sucky bit to go by myself) Still need to pick up some moss balls and terracotta pots. Should do that tomorrow I reckon :D

Just suck really hard with the end of the tube lower than the tank. Then just spit out the water that ends up in your mouth :lol!:

It's the water in the mouth bit that annoys me, I've done it a couple of times, but I'd rather just get my dad to do it! xD

Also still looking for some taller big leaved plants, they normally sell bits of wood with big leafed plants attached in my LFS, but they only had one so I still need stuff for the other two sections =/

going to be great sure the boy will love it Smile
Going to miss him he's such a little character - really friendly chap - loves to be finger fed  and anytime you move anything in his tank he swims around your fingers

Looking good so far rezz! To siphon the sand I get a very thin tube and suck one end and it sucks up the stuff off the sand and hardly takes out any water.
Awww i hope your ok after your bad driving lesson due to the cops:(

best of luck! One way I used to siphon the snail tank was short bit of piping (enough to reach floor of tank and out to a container to collect) fill the pipe from the sink till it starts pouring out the end with magic hands stopper both ends. Go to the tank, without taking thumbs/figners off, one end in water of tank and one in the container, let go and voila! It creates the pressure/vacuum, I only did this on my snail tank as it was pretty small and the suction wasnt overly powerful to get the snails but it always got rid of the waste (plus wasnt going near snail water in the mouth region!)

Yeah, I'm considering changing it so it's divided in 2 with another section for the heater and filter, with the size of the filter the third section isn't very big at all =/

Will post the new pics in a minute :D

-Rezz

[EDIT]
Here we go :D Ignore the far right section, I'm not done with that yet. The other section will also be getting little caves as soon as I find some I like :D

So are you moving the dividers so they have more space then making the filter/heater section smaller?
Or you leaving it like that?
I think it looks nice! Smile

I keep changing my mind! Very Happy I think I'm gonna leave it as 3 sections :D Just rearrage it a bit so the filters more out the way, and block the input, probs with some stockings or w/e. maybe filter floss, depends what's lying around I guess! Very Happy

Of course now my mother really wants me to put a dwarf puffer in one section, but I think I'll leave this tank as all bettas, and convince her to let me get another tank for a puffer (=<

I'm not sure what they're called I'm afraid, they aren't labelled at my LFS just 'Weighted plants' The big leafed one is attached to a bit of wood with cotton, *shrugs* Sorry I can't be more help! Sad
