Juwel Rio 240 (52G) Stocking Suggestions Please

Post by Nath J on Wed Nov 04, 2009 5:15 pm

Im getting a Juwel Rio 240 for my birthday which is great! However there is a few issues that need to be covered up first.
The main one is will my floo hold the wieght?
My room is between 2 external walls as it is an extention which i think is good thing.
I have a 30 gallon in my room at the moment and its fine, my dad has also screwed he cabinet to the wall so it sits on the skirting board as well and i think he would do the same with this one.

Just wanted to know if any of you knew anything on this type of thing and if you could help?

Just check that the tank sits across the floor joists, if it is a wooden flooring that is? Joists are what the floorboards are laid upon. The floorboards that you can see will be laid across the joists.
If the location you want the tank is running in the same direction as the joists, just make sure that tank stand can sit on two of the joists.
Its a bit awkward as you need to take the floorboards up to check where the joists are.

Well i have the tank, its not set up yet though hopefully will be in the next week. All of the fish that i have in my 3ft will be living in there but on my birthday my parents are going to take me to any lfs i want to go to buy some more fish. i just dont what i want to add and what i can add.
The fish i already have are:
12 female bettas
4 platy's
6 neons
8 cory's
1 rinbow shark
1 male cockatoo apisto
and 4 dwarf pleco's

I would like get some pygmy cories to add but wonder if that would be to many cories in one tank. I also would like to get either another trio of apistos or a pair/trio of rams gold or blue along with one or two female cockatoo apistos. But i have heard that rams need extra care? I also dont no what else would be nice to add that is a bit more unusual but commmunity. So i kinda need the help please.

Oww, saw some beauties today Nath Very Happy

Garra flavatra (Panda Garra) Prolific algae eater.

Tateurndina ocellicauda (Peacock Goby) Similar in colour to its bigger cousin. Grows to approx 3-4 inches and peaceful.

Snow-Capped Tetras. Dont know latin name, but they are Serpae tetra shape, but larger with bright white tips to their fins.

Or a small Angel maybe?

Well i have had angles before and thet became too agressive so i rehomed them. I like the rams a lot but just dont want to have them if i cant give them what they need.

How many fish would you say i could add to the tank along with the fish i already have?

Hi
I would say if you added half a dozen Pygmy cories, you could still add half a dozen or so middle water fish of about 2-3 inches.

Did you take a look at Peacock Gobies?

Just to add on Gobies, make sure they are true Peacocks, those were the ones we were aiming for in our tank and ended up with something different that bullied one half of the tank and ate the other (go armed with pictures!!!)

Post by Nath J on Fri Nov 27, 2009 1:31 pm

Okay cheers Amy. Well i am setting it up this sunday so it will have been set up with existing tank water and fish in it for 2 weeks before i add new fish. i am just going to add 20 litres a day of fresh water until it is full.

But i think the fish i will add are going to be a pair of rams gold or blue or another pair of different apistos (one or the other not both), 2 female cockatoo apisto's and some pygmy cories. I will then see how i get on from there.

The only trouble is im kinda afraid to go near rams, i have heard they are very sensitive.

blue and gold rams arnt very good comunity fish they need to be kept betweeen 28c-32c so alot higher than most of your fish could handle. bolivian ram are alot better and can be kept in normale tanks and there alot hardier than blue and gold rams,
