What do you think should add to help tank?

Post by lilacamy931 on Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:21 pm

I had a moval of the contents of the tank when had to get the evil gobies out (took a looongg time) so re composed so the hideaways were to the corners and bogwood otherside. Had a couple of plant die off since too (plantlets that didnt take, I find it touch and go depending on the tank). But think perhaps it is a little too bare still? We have the angel and gouramis but the tank looks empty from a plant view and fish view. The fish we are going to remedy with a shoal of sorts (tetras most likely) but main concern is getting plants that will thrive and fill the space. I think part of the problem is I have quite a lot of amazon swords (at least thats what i think they are) and branchy type plants. What do you think and what recommend? I have standard lighting for the tank (bulb fits length of tank) and dose the water, also have pond fertiliser sticks to try and feed them (unfortunately couldnt afford the gorgeous substrate at the time and feel abit late now have pea gravel).

p.s. please ignore background, planning to swap it around to a more natural side on the back as corals dont really go lol )

I would reccommend tall plants, Vallis, Elodea (they grow fast)

As for fish, you can never go wrong with a LARGE shoal of cardinal/neon tetras. ok, maybe you can, just be wary of the angel fish, when its older. I think the eat tertas. Not 100% sure though.

We are happening to go for a 10 strong shoal of neon tetras betta_246 Wink Glad someone else thinks they'd look good. We've read that there is less likely chance if our Angel grows up with them, so getting some next week and watch this space as it grows.

I really like the upside downs kizno do they use all levels of the tank?

I have seen some twisted vallis that may do the job. Its only certain plantlets that didnt work here but worked better in otehr tanks (and vice versa honestly!) Thanks guys

they mainly stay on the bottom but aslong as theres 3 or more they will swim round the hole tank quite abit especely when there small they dart round the hole tank but when they get bigger they stay on the bottom more.

Larger tetras should be ok, but things like Neons are natural prey to Angels. Serpae or Phantoms would be fine as they are deeper bodied.
I think planting the plants in tighter groups rather than spaced out will look better. Start in the back corners with the tallest and work from there.
A large piece of bogwood not only looks good, but fills space well. You can tie java moss to it too:)

I do have a medium sized bit of bogwood (cut the right hand side of tank off) and do have the filters, one to each corner. Thanks for that Van, will try this suggestion and see what we get|! Will think of something fluffier and bushier at the back like limnophila aquatica and need something foregroundy (what type of things do you have Van?) I would love a tank like yours but think too much heavily planting would be bad as only have fert sticks and dose water
(p.s. thank you thank you thank you guys x)

I've bulked out the back with Amazon sword and Vallis as they grow fairly fast and are pretty hardy.
