A Few Questions About Lighting Etc...

Post by jasminek on Sun Nov 22, 2009 7:26 pm

Hi Alll.
I'm looking for a light for my girls tank, the girls tank is 13 inch long. I was thinking of getting 2 lights, for each side of the tank if i can't find a big light., or 2, i thought of maybe getting 2 of those i already have, the 11w ones.
I looked at the T5 starter but its too expensive. I have £20 saved for a light
The girls tank is looking horrible, and so darn plain. The fish are doing well, just them always looked bored. So i need to find a good light, then get lots of plants in their!
All the plants i've had in their have died, so before i get plants i think i need to sort out the lighting.
Any ideas?
Thankyou.

What kind of hood, like a proper big hood, or a flat lid type thing? If it's one of the proper big hoods I wouldn't be suprised if you can get lights to fit in there...?

I presume its a plastic hood? Tubes can be fitted into them. You get little clips that screw through the hood to hold the tube, but it will need a starter unit.

The problem is, the tubes normally start at 12 inches. You then have to have the connectors on each end, which will probably make it too long for your hood.

You can get pygmy bulbs, but you would need to check whether they would be too wide. Like this -

The only problem with those starters Aly, is getting the tube small enough to fit in a 13" hood?
