My next project
To get these beauties to spawn.
The male

and his girly

they are going home tonight to be conditioned. Fingers crossed it works as they are very hard to find at the moment as wholesale and when you do the quality is usually very bad.

yes they are paradise fish. Same as bettas but not LOL same spawning and everything. I'm left with this pair, they have seemed to pair up and she is following him around everywhere so it was this pair that got choosen for me. now ive got to seperate them though as she is too big for a floater whilst conditioning, think i will divide the tank off. So its home for me in a bit with me divider and saw the blasted thing down to fit the tank. Gotta get it right as they can jump better than bettas. I need to get a load going as they are capable to go in semi aggressive community tanks with fish such as barbs and danios. Ive been ording them for about 9 months now and finally got them, most wholesalers dont do them now due to them being so bad quality. Went to get bettas the other day and hey there they were in a tank, about 30 of them. They can take a wide pH and temp and you basically look after them the same as bettas, but you can keep 1 male with a group of females with ease, if more than 1 male is in the tank it must be over 3 foot long and be heavily planted as they will fight.

Re: My next project
So how do you sex them Daz. Is it purely that the females colours are paler than the males or are there other visible signs too?

Ohhh cool !!!! Don't let me see them as I'll need to buy another tank lmao. So if they are hard to get hold of its a great opportunity for you then. I hope all goes really well.

Just had another look and you're right.....the caudal fin on the male is alot longer and pointier than the female

Re: My next project
males have slightly longer tips as well, the females tend to be a bit more rounded on the belly. As well as the lack of colour as you say.
heres a good site about them that ive been reading

Re: My next project
im taking them home today as ive lost a few of them and i really dont want to loose this pair, hoping that what ever it is will be less harmful in a divided tank with just them in there. I know it sounds mad but I gotta try anything to keep them alive so i can spawn them. My theroy is less fish, more control of the tank at home, so it should work out, treating them for internal bacs at the moment.

Here they are in their tank. Female was the perfect size for the floater

and here is his nest, he started it about 30 mins ago, the bubbles are a third of the size of bettas, Im so gunna enjoy watching this happen and its less stressful than bettas already LOL. no aggression, no flaring, just 2 fish getting fat on live food :D
