Sick Goldfish

Post by jasminek on Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:53 pm

Hi All, I'm looking for some help regarding my fish.
My fish sweet is ill, about a week and a half ago she was upside down with swimming bladder, so i pooped her into a breeding trap and treated her for swimming bladder she was fine after and started to become her happy self again. & recently these I’d say past 5 days she's become unhappy, i think she may be ill? She's back in the breeding trap because when in the tank she just sits on the tank floor all the time and either breathe rapidly or not much. I don't know what’s wrong with her, she’s just always lethargic and i don't know what to do or what’s wrong.
I've fed her peas the night before last night but she's still the same.
Also when she swims which she will if i put my finger in the water or something she swims fine, no balance problems and she's no fatter or slimmer than usual. The other fish will keep nudging her to move, which is another reason why she’s in the trap.
IF anyone has any advice for me I’d be very grateful. I just can't loose this fish she means a lot to me. (I've also added salt to the tank the last few days to see if it helps her but so far hasn't)
Many thanks.
Jasmine.

Good answer Wink

Is this is the only fish in your tank that is having problems? How long have you had this gourami?

Initial thoughts would say Bacterial infection, but could be old age.

Hehehe I meant Goldfish really Very Happy

You could try an Internal bacterial meds (remove any carbon from filter).

Thats about the only idea i would have at present:(

my fancies are very lethargic at the moment. They seem to be better in a smaller tank with very frequent water changes. I am sure you feed them on good quality sinking pellets, peas, and defrosted blood worm (although one of mine goes really strange when he has had these) mine had defrosted prawns tonight! I am on a goldfish forum as well, I can pm you the link if you want xx

hey van are you on delayed xmas hangover? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

jasmine.. I so hope your goldie pulls through...

unexplained under-the-weather symptoms can often point to an internal problem but fingers crossed... fish get the blues like the rest of us and could just be a bit low after the swim bloat.

I hope it picks up without it being anything major

what I have done with my fish is put them in a smaller tank. They were in this smaller one before and I was doing half water change every 7 days and then a total a week later. Now I know you are not supposed to do it this much with goldfish but they just seem better. They seem livelier already. Of course it is your favourite ones who always seem to get ill!

I have a 125l just for 2 fish and they seem pretty happy.
