what filter

my filter on my 30g is dieing since we had a power cut about a week ago its just slowwed down its supossed to do 1000lph and its now doing about 10lph theres still a constant flow but theres now power behind it. i spend about 4 hours yesterday pulling it to bits and clening every think but it still wont work so im guna get a new one. my lfs only dose to filters strong enough fluval 404 and tetra ex 700 but which one would be better? i looked on ebay and theres nothink around here and i would prefer to get a new one anyway.

On my 40g i have an Aquaone Aquis 1200. 1200lph and a canister capacity of 7.5L Managed to get it at a pretty good price from Tri-mar.

Out of the Fluval and Tetra I'd go for the Tetra. Although parts are readily available for the fluval, they are a bit dated.

im not sure if the tetra 700 would be enough because i just looked and it only dose 650lph but the fluval dose 1300lph so i think that would be better and its £20 cheaper.

£69 isn't bad for that size filter thumbup

The Tetra isn't worth the extra £20 Evil or Very Mad

I was lucky, Trimar had the Aquis on offer at £49 Very Happy

thats a good price
im a bit anoyyed about the filter i got it with the tank for £70 but half the reason i went for this tank was for the filter. it had never been opened aswell but they had had it for a while.

Are you sure the impellors are not blocked or the pipes kinked or something?

the pipes are fine and i took all the impellor out and cleaned it all out.

Seems weird that such a relatively new filter would lose that amount of flow.

I know these things are obvious and you've probably checked but things that spring to mind are -
Something clogging the inlet pipe in the tank.
Something clogging the outlet pipe at the bootom of the filter.
or
If you have any filter wool in the filter, that could be saturated?

checked them all i took the filter apart and put it back together about 20 times yesterday ive checked all the pipes everythink. ill have another go tommorrow see if i can find anythink before i got and spend £70

i just found a fluval 405 just up the road from me but its been used for a year ands a £50 with a day let.
what do you think would be better
a new fluval 404
or a fluval 405 thats been used for a year

There's not a big difference in price?? At least with the new one you're covered my warranty. If the 2nd hand one was say £30, then it would be a better deal.

the filter was is just getting worse and worse so i just went for the fluval 404 for 69.99. i went to swollow aquatics and they had the fluval 405 but that was 119.99 and i didnt think it was worth the extra £40.

van do you have any pics of the catfish you have in your 40G? i couldnt find anythink on the last time but im still looking at a few diffrent types insted of the once my lfs are getting in.

there quite nice but i think ill go for the Mystus bimaculatus just because i like the wiskers are they look like a real catfish not like a banjo or upside down catfish
