aahh my apisto..

Post by kizno1 on Thu Feb 04, 2010 5:38 pm

for the last week or so both of my Agassizii had been hiding and wernt comming out for food they hadnt spawned but they just staid in diffrent caves. but a few days ago the male started feeding again but has stopped again now. the female seems worse for the last 3 days she has hee in the top left corner of the tank next to the filter and is up right at the top of the tank and isnt eating or moving much she isnt moving her mouth atall but her gills are still going. so i put her in a breeding trap last night to see if i could get her to eat but she still wont and is still floating upright.what could it be the water is perfect and i did a big water change yesterday to see if that would help but no. im treating them with a anti internal bacteria med just to see if that helps but is there anything else i can do? this is really anoying they took agers to pair up ive never had any problems with them being ill and then a few months ago they paired up and spawned a few times but ate the eggs but now they go and get ill so i really dont want to loose them and have to go throught the pairing up thing again.

No No Nooo not the Apisto's.

Knowing what you're like with your Apisto's, i know you would have checked and double checked the water stats etc.....

Have you fed any live food recently? Thats one way baddies can get in your tank Evil or Very Mad From the description you have given, it does lead me to think its internal though, so complete the course of meds you have started and see what happens.

I take it there's no flicking or fast movements going on?

Very strange that the tetras are ok? You would have thought they would have shown signs that something was a miss long before the Apisto's.

How old are Apisto's?

uuuummm ive had them since the start of the summer holidays so over 6 months and the female was 1" and the male 2" when i got them so i wouldnt think that old and they dont look old i think the female is still growing and the male seems to be at his full size but i wouldnt say its because of old age.

nah
the only thing i can think of is deodorant but ive alway used that near the tank and if was goig to affect any fish i would have thought it would have been the betta because they breath the air and if it was that surely the tetra would be affected aswell. i really cant think of anything it could be and thats whats worrying me.

ahh shes just getting worse and worse shes pretty much stoped moving and her gills are going really slowly and her mouths not moving and shes still upright. atleast the male seems fine now still hiding more than normal but atleast hes eating again. i really dont want to loose her the amount of effort i put into trying to get the to look after the fry and spawn and then she goes and dies :[

Good news on them both. Lets hope they both make a full recovery. It would be awful to lose those when you've put so much hard work into them [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Thats good news about the Apistos [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] We have a problem with Nettys female Ram [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Loss of colour, acting quiet, so have popped her in a breeding trap and treated.

There's 6 X-ray tetras and 3 Pygmy corys (should have been 4 but only 3 in the bag).

they are a bit small to see if theres 3 or 4 on a bag :] if them rainbows do get a bit to agressive for the 40g then they would do fine in there rainbows are ok with high temps that rams need and im sure the rams would soon sort them out Very Happy

The tank wouldn't be big enough for the rainbows. They're in 180L at the mo and they use all of it [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
