Post by flip on Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:34 pm

ok so i just filled up the 55, but since i have to have it in the basement rec room i had to use the sink down there and it only has cold water, the water is ice cold. would it hurt the heater to be turned on wiht the water that cold? i dont know how to heat it up any other way [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hi
As long as the heater has been submerged in the water for 30 mins, it should be ok to turn on. You just have to let the heater glass cool to the temp of the water, which in 30 mins it should have.

the heater took the temp from 42F all the way to 67F overnight! getting there. another question though, do ya think the one 200W with be enough to keep the temp where it needs to be with out wearing it out quickly in the 55? the tank is in the basement and it is very cool down there, especially now. do i need to get another heater to run with it? if so what wattage would be good? thanks!!

i use a 100w for a 30g so a 200w is fine. if you can i would get 2 100w and but one at each end of the tank just to make sure the hole tank is a evan temp :]

i have the 200W at the opposite end of the tank from the thermometer and i havent yet checked the temp on the heater side, i should do that! if it doesnt keep it even i will get a 100W for the other side of the tank, that should be good right?

I would have also said 2 smaller watted heaters, the n you can place the thermometer in the middle (horizontaly).

There are Giant African Land Snails (that live on land only)
