Filter Help!

Post by lilacamy931 on Wed Feb 24, 2010 5:17 pm

I am a confused person indeed (I know not much difference there lol). i have always had internals (fluval plus range) and looking into perhaps an external but when you look at the stats side by side there seems no difference in functionality except freeing up space in the tank. I have always heard externals are much better for a tank but why is that?

I currently have for my 160 litre is a 42 US gallon is 3plus (700lph) and 4 plus (1000lph) giving a 10x turnover.

Looking at a 205 is for 200 litre (690lph) and 305 for 280 litres (1000lph). So they both do the same amount of turnover, is there any good thing for me to fork out and perhaps replace the 4 plus with an external 305?

i posted on the other place but ill post it here aswell
1 would go for atleast the fluval 405. i have the 404 in my 30g and thats perfect there good filters. you want about a 10X turn over and the 405 dose anout 1500lph which should be fine. the good things about having externals is they dont take up the tank space and they fit in alot more filter media.

yh i would go for it. there quite expensive but they make up for it with all the extra media and power and you dont have to clean them out anywhere near as much. my 14g tank internal filter i clean atleast ones every 2 weeks but the 30g gets cleaned about every 2 months lol
