I have heard boiling them will help, putting them in clean buckets of water and weighing them down, as well as placing them in the cistern(water holding part on top) of you toilet and letting them sit for a while. have never done any of this though.

Maybe make a hole and put gravel or sand inside?

Awww, shame they won't sink, could you try tying them to a stone, like a longish flat stone or something and burying the stone in the substrate so it can't be seen?

I asked my dad about it (parents did a lot of fishkeeping back in the day) and he said he just gently put the wood in the tank and eventualy it sinks. it floats and looks dumb for a while but he said its not anything different then a fish would see in nature.

yh like newfishy said you need to weigh it down and after a while it will become water logged and sink. it does take quite a while somethimes i soaked a 3ft long branch for over a minth before it sunk. your best to boil it first aswell just to make sure theres nothink on it.
