convicts

Post by kizno1 on Mon Mar 15, 2010 6:07 pm

ive been trying to get rid of the male apistogramma nijsseni since the female died because i cant get another female because the lfs said there supplyers havent got any at all so could be another few months. this guy said he would have it because i was just giving it away for free and he said i could have a proven pair of convicts. the male is pink and about 1" and the female is a normal one with blue and black stripes. he said the spawned a yesterday but thee eggs where eaten by his blue acara which is why hes selling these because tha acara where attacking them.
this is the female the pics are really bed because there on my phone. ill try and get some better ones tomorro once shes coloured up. she was a navy blue colour with black stripes that go from her back to ger belly and has a bright orange belly because she still has her breeding colours on.

they seem to have settled in now the males fine but the females had a few fights with the angels but it seems to be calming down.

Maybe another time then. She's probably a bit to stressed from moving to spawn anyways, it might not be good for her. littleangel

Convicts are regular egglayers IMO, but I don't think ANY fish could get jiggy with it that soon after the first load of eggs.

You'll probs see some eggs in a few weeks. They're great parents too Smile

I love sevs too - have 2 greens, a gld and a red spot. The greens are going to my mum though, they're such trouble makers, maybe because they're wild caught?

Cichlids have so much personality though Very Happy

i like cichlids aswell but all the nice once seem to get to big to go in my tank and my mum wont let me get any bigger ones.
i like severums, oscars and jags they all look amazing

i had to put the female convict in the breeding trap when i got back today because it had chewed up on the the angels fins quite bad and a little nips to another one but the other 2 seem fine but hopefully a night in the breeding trap might calm her down.

I seen Cichlids in the LPS a few weeks ago. Some had an almost red belly, were they near breeding? I just thought it was their colouring but now after hearing this, obviously not!
