How to make coconut caves.

I was making a few caves and got bored so thought i would take some pics and show how to make them evan though most people already know lol

First get the coconut :]


Then drill holes in the top to drain all the liquid and it helps the sink in the tank because they dont get air bubbles in them


Then sand or file off all the furry stuff on the out side. I use and electric sander and that works really well. You proberly should have done this before drilling the holes but i forgot to sand it at first :]
Right half has been sanded

All sanded


then cut it in half



Then scrape out the white insides. Make sure you scrape out the layer inbetween the white stuff and the shell because the first time i didnt and it spiked my water. I use a knife but a screw driver, chisel or something else sharp should work.


All done


Then cut a hole off the front size depending on the size of the fish its for


Then use a file or sandpaper to smooth off the inside

Thats proper cool:D. What did you use to cut it? sorry if thats a dumb question. In pottery class im making caves and tunnels for my fishes, my teacher thinks I'm a nutter! Hahaha.

my lfs dont sell them at all they only sell like molded caves and there about £8 so its cheaper to pay 52p for a coconut

lol there good for bettas and corys my corys are always in and out of them. there really not that hard to make.

Probably not but you haven't seen me in action. I get the job done but its normally a blood bath in the process. LOL
