cories and betta fry?

Post by Haych on Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:30 pm

I have read other diaries about having clean up crews in fry tanks, and had a thought, can a cory live with fry without any issues?

I have one little guy that hates being in a group, he always sits alone, so I seperated him and he came out of his shell.

I am thinking of having a go at breeding as I now have a 40l tank come spare as I have the big rio divided.

Any help appreciated Smile

A Cory would probably munch on the betta fry. Especially the ones that lie on the bottom most of time. With the high death rate of fry in some spawns I wouldn't risk it.

I have had pygmy cory, after the first few sensitive weeks they could be used to clean the bottom without harming the fry. if you have had the corys for a long while and are 100% sure they are not carrying anything. also eventualy the bettas will get big enough to pick on them.

I have had these cories for ages, but arent pygmy's.

The bettas sometimes have a chase of the cories I have. Depends on their mood.

But I had to leave the tank lights on a few days ago (piled stuff in front of it) and it sent the cories mad - one of them sgredded Apollo Sad

I had forgot about that, so I won't even be thinking of using cories in there anymore lol

Netty - what a BBN?

What the BN or the fry? BN's grow fairly slowly and I doubt it would hurt the bettas anyway.

i think pygmys would be fine. if im honest im not sure theres any point in a bn. they do a fair amout of cleaning when there small but when they get 3-4" they stop cleaning that much and just eat what you put in for them and bns make a rediclouse amount of waste they seem to make more than they eat so i think it would just mess up the water in the frys tank. if you still deside to try a bn then make sure you add some wood because they need to eat it and they will need places to hide.
