Can I have an ID on these please?

Post by Irish_Lass on Sat Mar 20, 2010 1:42 pm

So, I was talking to a friend today & he mentioned how in some LPS quite a number of the fish are wrongly identified. Females are confused with males etc....he says he has even seen the wrong species listed! Shocked

This got me thinking about my corydoras catfish. What if they've been wrongly identified? If they have then its not a huge deal, its just an excuse for me to buy another tank & have my own cory' tank. Wink

Could anybody ID these for me properly?

Again, I apologise for my rubbish photo taking. Smile

I have 1 that looks like this:

I have 4 that look like this:

I would say the first was a Sterbai and the second one a Salt and Pepper.

first ones a sterbai that will love the temp that the bettas are kept at. and the seconds a pepper cory i have 6.
the males and females will get to about 2" but the fmemales will get alot fatter. the pepper looks male to me and the sterbai im not sure but looks like it could be a young female.

At the time I was more concerned about the tetras getting no food because Smurf is so partial to the food I feed them. He doesn't care much for the sinking catfish pellets because it takes too long for them to soften.
I'm going to look into other foods for the catfish. I'd like them to be on a varied diet too, just like my bettas.

algea wafers, cichlid pellts, trout pellets, frozen and live foods, peas and some will nibble a little at cucumber. if you get them on a good varied diet they might spawn and hopefully a few eggs might make it. my peppers spawned when i first got them but they haven since. you could try a little pitbull plec in there aswell ones the tetras go or maby now if you have good filteration. that will eat the same things as the corys.

I don't know if I could cope with them spawning. Are the babies as easy to care for as guppies & sword babies?

Oh & I have to say, the wee Sterbai is my favourite. He was my first & I've got such a soft spot for him, plus I think he's prettier than the others. Wink

you can set up a microworm or vinegar eal worm cult for only a few £ that will last for agers and will easily feed all the fry and they willl also eat crushed flake and algea wafers and when they get bigger the same things as the adults
