Feeding / New Tanks & Water Changes

Post by damo2904 on Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:07 pm

I'm interested to know what everyones weekly feeding routines are for their betta's, so what do u feed yours and when?

Also, what do u add to your water when you set up a new tank & during water changes & how much water change / when?

I'm asking because I'm eventually gonna set up a new female sorority & want to do it right. My last one ended in disaster.

Hi
Our bettas are fed 3/4 pellets twice daily, but have one non-feed day a week. They also get bloodworm and brineshrimp as a replacement for the pellets a couple of times a week.

When setting up a new tank, apart from the normal dechlorinator, we use the "cloning" method. Cloning is taking some mature filter media from an established filter and putting it in the new filter. Instantly ready for the fish then thumbup

Water changes vary from tank to tank depending on what they have in them. A 15-20ish gallon tank with a cycled filter and a sensible number of fish and plants in, we would do 25% every 10-14 days.

I like Aquasafe for water conditioner.

I clone my filters too - fishless cycling is not for the impatient like me lol.

Generally do water changes every week on tanks with messy fish (my puff and my goldfish), and I've got my cichlid tank down to every 2 weeks due to heavy overfiltering. For a newly set up tank i'd stick to every5-7 days, even with a cloned filter. Just my personal preference Smile
