Help!!
How long do I filter my tank before it's safe to put a betta in, I have just put in play sand, I soaked, drained and re-added more fresh conditioned water.

Re: Help!!
Hi
Now most fish shops will tell people to run their filter for a week and then add their fish, but this doesn't actually do anything.
You have three choices - Fish-in cycle, Fishless cycle or cloning.
Fish-in means you will have to monitor the ammonia and nitrIte levels and carry out water changes probably every two days until the filter is cycled, which can take up to 6 - 8 weeks.
Fishless cycle means you will need to add a waste product like pure ammonia, monitor ammonia and nitrIte, and keep doing this for up to 8 weeks.
Cloning means to take some filter media from an established filter and put it in the new filter, which will allow you to put fish in straight away.

Re: Help!!
Ah ok lol....
In that case, feed the filter every day until you put the fish in. A pinch of fish food will be fine for a short space of time. If the water is looking pretty clear and up to temperature, then theres no reason why you cant put your betta straight in.

Re: Help!!
Ric is very upset with me atm, he is in the breeder trap, as he is the more agressive and Phinneaus needs a heated tank, so they are sharing til the sand settles , I figure I might wait overnight just to be safe, it is clearing, not much cloudiness left. He will also be mad as he is going to the other tank and will be in the trap there too. When everybody is changed I will leave ric in the bedroom for a change of sceanery and to see if I can get Phinneaus more social.
