Re: Puff Puff!
These are Red Eyed Puffers (Irrubescos). I definately have two males as they keep having a little nip and keeping an eye on them I would say near to full adult size around 2 inches. One amazing thing is the colour changes as they explore, or see something new or size each other up its amazing! Im trying to source the females and just waiting to hear back from people. These are kinda the next step up from the dwarf puffs.
Of course Ive just found someone needing to rehome a brown puffer (well at least what I can idenitfy) so may be puffering it out.
My two males are acting like sulky puppies currently, will try to get more pics of their colours (sorry to blab on you know Im excited)

Re: Puff Puff!
For the Irrubescos? Well it varies quite a lot looking around the sites. For my 160 litre it is recommended 2 males and 3-4 females with good filtration, though I can get away with some different fish perhaps. One could be kept in a 10g, a female and male in 20g.
As to requirements, lots of decoration and foliage, especially if more than one male so they canevade each other, pots and caves for them to hide and sleep in. Diet needs snails, mussels, bloodworm, prawn, etc very meaty foods. Water stats nice tropical and keep nitrates fairly low 20 and under optimum (treat them much like a cory in that respect.) Temperatures 23-26C
The males tend to be bigger than the females, if considering this species be careful as they get mixed easily with lorteti (and these are vicious naughty puffs).
Here is a good link to show you the males and females of this species:

Some also keep these successfully community wise (but this is down to the individual) for instance I havent had mine long but no neons have disappeared yet.
Sorry again for babbling, I just get excited. Are you considering them Van?
The lorteti species:

It does say minimum 20g on there but if going into the forum itself a lone one can cope in 10g. If going for these use latin name to order, on the other site there is a good pic that has them mixed otgehter by accident that can call up if need be,

I notice 3 significant colour cahnges:
1. Moody dark body colour
2. A pale greenish colour (like puff2)
3. As above in Puff 1 striped
Having a hard time locating females.

Re: Puff Puff!
Well....I didnt imagine it until a puff expert I have been consulting for tank advice and numbers mentioned it would be highly likely once they settled in, though I would have to keep a beady eye for the pufflings (my god cory babies are cute and so are axolotls, but red eyed puffs? AHHHH!!!!) If I can just get the females now lol..actually that would be fab as so far I have found these arent so readily available and home breeding would probably be a good idea for them.

Re: Puff Puff!
I hope you manage to get them some girlies
I think they'd be adorable little babies. They're a nicely sized puff aren't they
I'm thinking about more puffers too (the bug is like the betta bug haha), but I really should wait until I find my dreamy Miurus

Re: Puff Puff!
Puffers are my secret love, they dont need too much extra care just the added tank space! Aw keep plugging for that mirius (they are just so stunning in so many different variations) but perhaps in the meantime have something smaller? Im definately aiming for a fahaka and porcupine but it will have to wait until we buy our own home so dont have to move anywhere, but for now I have my cuties.
I think I have sourced the females though it is going to be a little risky as they are being special couriered with my instructions, only way I have been able to get them! But I will try to make it work either ways x

Re: Puff Puff!
Ooh I will have all my fingers and toes crossed that they arrive safely! Whe do you get them?
I'm considering dwarf puffs, but we shall see
wanted to give fig 8's a go but with all my other tanks I don't think i'd be able to deal with brackish yet.
Fahaka's are lovely! There were lorteti's in my new-found good fish store in central London, they were really cute and £3.99 each... thought that was rather good.
