white spot or velvet?

Post by liz2 on Tue Apr 06, 2010 8:08 am

I know white spot comes when fish are stressed, but my fancy fish have been acting weird, on inspection they have velvet so I treated the whole tank for that. The smallest one looked like he had white spot not velvet but I think white spot and velvet dust look same. Anyway he looks even worse so I have removed him to a qt tank. Treated him yesterday with w, spot meds and got to do it again in 3 days. Anything else I can do as he sure is cute..

White spot looks like they've been sprinkled with salt but velvet looks like they've been dusted and when you shine a torch on them it looks like goldish powder.

No lighting and high temps (80/82f) along with meds is the best thing and will take about a week or two to clear.

Good luck and hope the little one makes it Very Happy

Her keeps turning upside down now, so I think he has sb. Can I use sb meds as well as white spot at same time?

Oh no.... evil, evil velvet. I'm sorry he's not looking too hot atm Sad

I don't think you can use both meds at the same time. what velvet leds are you using? Because some Ich meds don't cover velvet...

hug

Fingers crossed he looks a bit perky today but I know it is early days. I have taken him out of main tank where I am using anti velvet. He is in a smaller qt tank with aqua salt and white spot treatment, and a heater which he thinks is really good. thumbup

the spots have gone, and he is swimming about and asking for food. He is staying put though as he needs some more white spot meds in 2 days....
