What is she?

Post by cheekysbabe on Wed Apr 07, 2010 10:13 am

I got this little gal as a CT but she shows no CT at all. She has 4 rays (I think). Any help would be good. Will try and get another pic of her tomorrow as she as grown lots since I got her 2 weeks ago. This is a pic I posted before.

She doesn't look like ct at all

She's got branching in tail so def from hm lines... but with tail looking pretty long and 4 rays (that i can make out) she's probably delta or superdelta depending on the overall spread of her tail

Agree with Incog.....no CT in there. 4 ray branching and quite straight edges to the caudal fin so probably from HM lines.

ohm def the way to go if wanting hm traits

marble is a lottery

do you know parents colour? if red in background you will get lots of red instead of yellow in the fry

go blue male, might get some mg style colours or get all red/green fry....

cello male then prob more pastels but dominant colours will be from both sides parents... still poss a lot of reds and greens with some white pastels, colour pastels and a few dark ones

I'd definately put her with your blue blue male. You should get some really nice babies from those two. Very Happy

OK. As soon as the the show run is over (my mother and me show horses!) in about 2 weeks time for us. I will move everything I'm not using out of my room and replace it with one 40L tank for breeding, got an idea for the males when the grow (dont mind doing water changes everyday) and in a months or so time my layby will be paid off so I'll put my 200+L in my room for a grow out tank for the girls. What you think???

I know it is hard not knowing the parents of the males but what colours do you think I would get from each? As I know my mum and sister want me to breed with the white/black/cello male. Using a female with 4 rays am I going to get DT's, SD's and HM's???

Sorry for all the questions but I love to know what I'm doing, not just jump into it.

Thanks Jade.

Without knowing the lines you could end up with all sorts of different colours appearing in the fry. For an example, on this link are the parents of our last years spawn Kindralth & Pearl. The pics of babies underneath are all from this pair and show a small sample of the colours we ended up with.

Again for tail types you should get a mix of the tails you mentioned. Even putting HM x HM together you'll still get some SD tails.

It's always abit of pot luck when you breed anything that you don't know the history of, which I think makes it much more interesting sometimes.
