When a betta is ill...

... Is it OK to feed more frequently? The little battered betta I took on won't eat pellets or flake at all since bringing him/her home and only shows interest in moving food. I figured he/she could do with some extra protein and energy for getting well, so I've been feeding 3x daily with brineshrimp, glassworms, bloodworms and daphnia. A little at a time, not so much that the betta is bulging, just showing a full tum.

Is this too much? I dont want to overdo it,but at the same time I want to make sure the little one is getting enough food.

Also, how on EARTH do I get him/her interested in dry foods? Won't even touch frozen bloodworm! Once he/she's better I want to go back to Atisons/Hikari/Novo betta variation that the others get.

Little and often is often the best way, so what you are doing sounds good Maybe once its more settled try lightly crushing the pellet

Thankees, good to know i'm not totally stuffing the poor thing. After not eating all day yesterday, he/she did well overnight so i'm hoping the regular feeding will help the poor thing's condition.

I have frozen krill too, do you think this would be good for the betta? They are about 3 pellets in length, if that makes sense lol, so 1 cut up would be a whole meal? Just coz I noticed that the Novobetta has Krill as a top ingredient... might be a nice variation

The Krill will be fine if you cut it up smaller. As it's quite rich it would be best to only feed this once or twice a week.

Hope he does ok. I'm sure once he's settled and feeling better he'll get into more of a routine with his feeding and then you can try weaning him onto the dry stuff

Thanks he seems really stubborn so will have to persevere when switching over, poor thing looks so tatty you just want to him! Makes you feel sorry for them when they're imported, some just don't seem to recover very well, poor babies.

That's the down side of importing unfortunately and some cope better than others.

Now we both have a fussy animal to try to get eating. Welcome to my world LOL

Well I suppose I should count myself lucky, coz my little one will at least eat live food readily. Your little one is very cheeky!

The live food seems to be working.. there seems to be quite a bit of regrowth of fins now, esp. caudal and anal. Ventrals are still really short so i'm praying it's a girl, lol.
