if adding other betta females you want a min of three...4-5 are better but you are on tank space restriction

van etc. would give you good advice on a tank mate to one female

if you make a betta girl tank you won't have room for extra fish and you still need a min of three if not four to make it a comfortable group as two will fight.

a 5 gallon is not enough room for enough girls to even out the aggression. a 10 is the bare min I would ever atempt it in. and I would have 5-6 girls even then. pygmy corys like to be in small groups, but you could only keep 5-6 imo in a 5 gallon and you must be carefull that your betta does not think its great fun to chase and eat them. in a bigger tank they can get away easy, not so in a little tank.

thers quite a few things that could go in there depending on the betta shrimps, snails and pygmy corys normally work and endlers, ember tetra, galaxy rasbora and rummy noes tetra sometimes work
