Fluval U2

Post by Nataliey on Mon Apr 19, 2010 11:39 am

I bought a Fluval U2 for my 95 litre tank about a month ago, since its been in there its sucked 2 of my fish in the side of the filter and obvisously killed them. Firstly it was one of my baby mollies which totally got sucked in to the side so all i could see was its tail hanging out. Yesterday i noticed another fish at the side of the filter...it was my last glowlight. Sad
What can i do scratch as i dont want to lose anymore fish?? I was thinking if i put a mesh barrier around it, would it still work as affectively as it is now confused
Best filter iv had yet...but deadly to my little fishes!! Sad

Sad So sorry for your losses! I think a mesh might be okay. the particles it picks up usually aren't that big are they? hug RIP little ones!

I have the same issue with my U1 - which I never had with the Plus series.

I would not risk the filter - I bought a different one.

try fluval plus2

you can use filter media to cover the intake or filter bags that you can get at the lfs. they will get clogged up quickly though and will need to be washed daily.

If you do go for a new filter i would go for a flurval 205 for a 20g tank. its a external but then you dont have to work about fish getting sucked in or stuck.

The U2 I had gave me nothing but trouble Evil or Very Mad I was quite pleased when it broke down completely because I had an excuse to get rid of it. Try the mesh around it, but if it doesn't work you'll be able to pick up another filter from ebay really cheaply.

I love the Plus series though, excellent filters

wasnt as effective first time ive ever heard that. i personally prefere externals i wou ld never go back to a internal in my 30g they give more room and have alot more media in it. if i put my external in the tank it would cover about 1/4 of the tank. i would honestly have a look at the fluval 205 or 305 you can get them fairly cheap of ebay and plases.

i would look for a filter that does atleast 10X your tank a hour
a 20g is about 75l so you want a filter doing about 750lph.

Im not familiar with that brand, but in a pinch you take a very clean never washed never used nylon stocking and put the intake tube in it and tie it off, it will prevent anything from swiming in and getting stuck. it reduces the flow a bit and can clog because it does not allow big particals threw, but for .50$ its a quick temp fix.

I wouldnt trust putting it in the tank - mine only had to go passed and were sucked to it - its rather mean
