Aggressive angelfish

Post by kizno1 on Mon May 03, 2010 5:31 pm

I though 2 of my angels might of paired up because the pair where staying togther and chasing off other fish. Then a few days ago i was sure they had spawned and eggs got eaten beacuse she went from really fat to skinny overnight. then she went off her food and hasnt eaten in about 5 days and the lasty few days i noticed the other angels fins where shredded but not hers. And last night she had battered them the are all shredded and one of them had wedged itself under a bit of bog wood and got stuck trying to get away from it. I put it in a breeding trap for mow and im going to divide half of the 10g endler tank of for it for now. What could be the problem? Is there anythink i can do or should i take it back?
Thanks

Kizno I talked to the guy and he says it could possibly be that they spawned but more likely one of them just turned agressive. He says to seperate them if possible, maybe they don't have enough room, but more than likely you should take the aggressive one back. Sad Hope this helps a bit.

Oh, btw, wacth the other one closely for infection, I guess they are prone to infections when they have been nipped in the fins.

thanks. im fairly sure they has spawned before. because she went from fat to skinny over night and the 2 would swim round together. i really dont have a clue why shes being agressive shes been fine for a few months and has only just started getting agressive. the other fish seems alot better today most of the damage is just fin damage and is alredy heeling nicely.

Good. Maybe she got aggressive because of spawning? You know went all motherly, or maybe she spawned and he ate the eggs, so she got mad at him and aggressive? Clueless, maybe it was just pms lol! !

Re: Aggressive angelfish

4 Angelfish In A 30 G Is Too Many I Would Say As They Mature. I Used To Have A 30 G With Only 2 Angelfish In It And I Had The Same Problem Occasionally. I Now Have 4 Angelfish In A Tank Over Twice The Size And Although There Is Bullying There Is Enough Space For The Other Angels To Completely Get Away From The Other Fish. So I Would Suggest That Consider Re Homing The Aggressive One Or Just Keeping Two That You Know Get On Well Together..

Hope This Help's Smile

I know I am a bit behind in this topic but hopfully my coment might be usfull to you.
Now your in my line of field so too speak. You have two main problems there. Both of which have been mentioned. Firstly the tank is too small and could well be over crowded. What size is it and what fish do you have in it. Secondly Angelfish are very territorial especially when they are breeding and this leads to complications if in a community tank.
You can not breed Angelfish in a community tank, they need there own space. You have two options:- 1] If you don’t want to go ahead and breed from her I would be inclined to sort out the angels into separate tanks, get rid of her, or get a bigger tank. This will always happen when you have a few angels in a tank that is on the small side. 2] If you want to try your luck with breeding her, then you will need a few more tanks. You will need a breeding tank of at least 24x12x15deep and a couple of large growing on tanks, 3 to 4 footers are best. Bear bottom tanks are better and easier to keep clean, as when breeding Angelfish cleanliness is next to godliness. I could go on writing page after page here but you will have to decide which way you want to go. If it’s the breeding side then I’ll be more than willing to help you out with what ever you want to know. Please ask away.

I had 2 angels years ago and they used to guard a corner of the tank all the other fish kept out of the way...luckily it was a big tank....
