Refreshed tank for WCMMs after Betta Death D:

Post by Skunk on Tue May 25, 2010 6:59 pm

As many of you may know, my betta died a week ago last sunday.

So, I moved my WCMMs (had to move them from my axie tank after my new axie thought they were a snack >>) into a plastic tank, with the filter to keep them going, boiled my tank, tested it for leaks (never did that the first time, Embarassed!) and washed the new substrate, which is large gravel.

I also bought some new plants, including moss balls and vallis, and set up my refurbished tank. Also got some bogwood in there.

I have 5 minnows and one or two physa snails that have come in on plants.

Also my re-arranged Axie tank with my new Albino Axie "Maya(n)" in the top left, and my older Wild colouring Axie "Aztec" in the middle right.

Looks good. How big is the tank? you might be able to add some pygmy corys or shrimp.

The WCMM tank is just 17L, large surface area though as it is a rectangular tank. Axie tank is 45L

Thats still a little small for the IMO 20G is they min they are extremal active. if your not going to get another betta i would try and replace them with 6 galaxy rasbora or ember tetra and 6 pygmy corys

the 17L is a temp home until I can get a larger one (within a few weeks), aiming to get a 150L (would they be ok in there with community fish?). And are you saying that 6 galaxy rasbora or ember tetra AND 6 pygmy corys (12 in total) would be ok in the 17L?

OK. IME WCMM do alot better at about 15-20C so might not do to well in a tropical tank. I don't see a problem with having 6 of each of them in a 17l they only get 1" and don't produce much waste at all.

Yeh, my 17L isnt heated, possibly get a larger tank for them and another shoaling mini-fish, or perhaps just another gang of WCMMs in a 20G

It will need to be heated for the corys and rasbora. A 20g sounds fine for them. if you have a fast current hong kong plecs/hillstream loaches would go in well with them and apple snails and cherry shrimp would work at lowwer temps.

Great Smile My plan was to use the 17L as a temp home for my WCMMS (new axie thinking that they are snacks) and then use it as a planted tank with snails and shrimp.

White Cloud Mountain Minnow, the little guys in the 3rd and 4th photos.

Just fed my axies and I gave a few bloodworms to my WCMMs too, funny :P

Aww, my mom loves white clouds! But they're so hard to pick out in my tank so I stick with neon tetras.

Yeh, I usually count them when I'm around their tank and its hard enough with this small tank and just 5!

Neon Tetras are awesome, I want some, my lfs has some that are 1.5" :D

I find they blend in with the gravel. That's why I like my neons. I have 8 in my tank and they school around nicely. Same sort of movement as white clouds, just more visible.

True Smile was suggested that white clouds are good with Bettas, so got them to go with him, found out that night they are best in coldwater tanks, so moved to my axie tank, then my new one saw them as a snack! So got moved back!

Using gravel as its more natural for them, and I do prefer it to sand.

I prefer gravel, too. But yeah, white clouds like it colder. I guess you have to think about their natural habitat...

I personally dont like neons i think there's alot nicer and hardier tetras. I prefer sand to gravel and its alot better with cats and cichlids.
