Hi all

Post by jessie1602 on Thu Jun 10, 2010 5:35 pm

Hi all.

My name's Jess, 25/Bedfordshire. I was a fancy goldfish girl but where I now live the tap water is horrible (40+nitrates! 8.2 ph!) and it made my moors and fantail very sickly. The have now been rehomed, so after my goldie heartache *sob* I have taken the plunge into tropicals with bettas, a fish I've been in love with for years but would never let myself buy anymore tanks! So I have sold my large tanks and bought a few 5 gallon tanks that I have filled with carefully chosen bottled water. I pick up my first betta on Saturday, a pink and lilac CT that a breeder/importer in Hemel Hempstead found for me. I think I saw some posts on here that some members have got fish from this breeder recently (he sometimes sells on eBay).

I will share more pics of my new betta when I get him at the weekend (my avatar is a pic the breeder took of the fish to show me what he looks like), I'm soooo excited!!! My tank is nicely cycled so hopefully he'll settle in well. I'm so happy to see lots of other betta-obsessed people on this site, I started to think maybe I was a complete fish freak! My other half thinks I'm a complete nutter ^^
Love the pics that other members have posted of their fish, there's some gorgeous bettas out there! Hoping to get a couple more myself through breeders if I can find some local enough!

Hope everyone is having a good evening.

Jess Smile

Hello and welcome
You can use bog wood, leaves and peat in the filter to lower the ph. Just stay away from chmicals because they make the ph very unstable

Hi again,

Thank you all for your lovely welcomes and advice! I'm very excited about picking up my betta tomorrow! Although I'm slighty concerned that both of silverrabbit's Hemel Hempstead fish died..that's such a shame! I hope I have better luck, I'll do my best! I wasn't overly keen on going for an imported betta, would much prefer them all to be home bred, but there seems to be a slight betta-drought as far as I can tell online! I'll keep checking eBay, and hopefully I'll find some breeders/links on this forum for future pets :-)

Hope you're all having a good Friday (woo!) and have some fun planned for the weekend. I plan on staring at my fish for hours, boring the pants off my other half (who think's I'm a complete nutter).

Jess ^^

Thanks Liz! I'll post some pics in the Showcase section this weekend hopefully! I'm a little nervous, this is my first tropical tank, I'm extra cautious about this new fish, I don't want to mess it up or for him to go belly up in a few days *worry* Fingers crossed all will go well :-)

Happy Friday night!
