Corys spawning

Post by kizno1 on Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:03 pm

My pepper corys are spawning as i type this. The female is full grown and has always looked really eggy but never laid eggs. All day one of the male has been chasing her up and down the sides and i just went to switch the light of and noticed them. I did try to take a vid but it was scaring them so i stopped. Ones they have finished im going to scrape the eggs of and put them in a breeding trap.

Its really wierd to watch. the female lays the eggs inbetween her 2 fins and carrys it around the tank till she finds a good spot and then the male is chasing her fertilizing them.

Sort of i have spawned this female and a different male before but all the eggs got fungus and died This was about 1 year ago. Shes been eggs ever since but never laid any more untill today. I think it was because it has ben so hot but the last 2 days its been a little cooler so the tanks have dropped from 30C to 28C so i think that temped them to spawn. There still laying them now there 100s

Id love to see photos of the eggs if possible when they've finished spawning Smile

Ive took some and ill put them up tomorrow. There isnt that many in the pic because ive moved over 50 into a breeding trap. Neither of the parents will guard them thats why im removing them or they will eat them. They are so hard to collect because the parent just lay them in little lines anywhere on any of the glass plus the fact there so small and sticky and you really do have a hard time getting them of the glass without squaring them.

All the pics are terrible because they just sit behind a cave or in a really bad place to take a pic then all of a sudden they go nutty and start spraying the eggs but they would lay and eggs with me standing at the tank so i can really get and good pics or vids.

I have but i just cant get them quick enough. The apisto is just following them eating them but i dont want to try and grab them right after they have laid them incase it spooks them and they stop laying.

Theres not really much point because i dont want to stress him because he seems to have calmed a cave and is trying to get the female in there and they are the ones i really want fry off.
I havent got any good pics of my apisto but this is what the male looks like

Hey! They're good looking and I like the color! Its rough being a one tanker.
Theres an add for Jaguar cichlids fry for about 2lbs. apiece. 3/4 to 1" long. He
has over a hundred! Needs to clear them out. Has a couple of other types of
cichlid fry too!
