Re: Corys spawning
There is another strain of apisto in my pic. Thats my other male. The corys seem to have stopped spawning. They didnt lay anywhere near as many eggs as last time. But the apisto will be getting a tank of there own soon so i might get some fry then. Sounds good. I love jags but thy get over a foot long and are one of the most aggressive fish you can get. The will actually try to kill other fish not just nip at them and if you have a breeding pair they will kill or at least seriously injure any other fish in the tank. Thats said they are one fish ive always wanted to keep and if you only keep one you can get away with big plecs with them.

I didn't research them at all so theres no surprise! Thats bigger than most the trout I've caught! 'd have to win a lottery to buy a tank large enough.

They need a tank atleast
6X2X2 but about a 8X3X3 would be best IMO

Re: Corys spawning
When I went on a useless errand to the nearest lfs. No carbon replacements for by under gravel filter' When I returned I noticed a 20gl. complete setup and I missed it by 20 minutes! The others were on their way. A minute equals a gl. I guess. Aaaaaaaarrrrrggggg!!!

Re: Corys spawning
Youv been really unlucky with looking for tanks. 20G are a good size tank. Im going to restock mine soon with a pair of snakeheads or dwarf pike cichlids and sell the tetra and corys. and move the apisto to a tank of there own. Have you though any more about what fish you want?

Re: Corys spawning
My first concern is moving my first c/t as he's only in a 2.5gl hex. I'm toying with
the idea of splitting my 10gl. or possibly setting up a bare 5gl. rectangular. But the cost is prohibitive! I can buy a complete setup up to thirty gl. for less. May-
be even bigger with luck. As we know I have an abundance of luck!lol
I think I'd want a 30gl' for a cichlid tank at least. It would have to more peaceful ones to start with. Small with some angels might be nice. You'll be advising me when I'm close to stocking one. If you're not too busy with eggs!

Re: Corys spawning
You could always get a 30G and divide 5G of each side for the bettas and have something else in the middle if its alot cheaper. Haha ill always be happy to help
. Angles can be a little spiteful sometimes and can be hard to stock around because of other fish nipping there long fins but they can still work well with other fish but you just need to pick carefully.

If I used the dividers that aren't solid I'd have the two different PH level requirements to contend with wouldn't I?

Re: Corys spawning
It dependence what you put in the middle? If its cichlids i cant see a problem as both like acidic soft water.

Re: Corys spawning
Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Still would like to dedicate a larger tank for the cichlids. I'll have more money coming in the fall(Which isn't saying much) and will be able to by couple nice sized used tanks with some trimmings! Hopefully a 20 and a 30 at least.

Re: Corys spawning
Sounds good. 20-30G will be good for dwarfs and anything from 55G upward will be good for a pair of 2 of medium sized cichlids. I know you said you want something peaceful for a 20-30G but have you looks at dwarf pike cichlids? im thinking of getting a pair. You would oly be able to have a pair but if they breed you could kept the fry with them to.
A pair of C. regani or C. compressiceps will work or if its bigger a pair of belly crawlers will work.

Re: Corys spawning
Theres a privately owned lfs thats larger than the average around here I've been meaning to check out. Several others to recheck from the past too. The larger chains seem to cater to a certain crowd and I'm not impressed with there selection. I'll have to see whats readily available and get to know some
lfs that are wiling to special order if needed.

Re: Corys spawning
Most lfs will order fish in for people aslong as they can make money haha. Theres quite a few different options for cichlid tanks but it will probably be best to see what size tank you get then find some fish you like and build around them

Re: Corys spawning
I totally agree because I know enough that the size of the tank will set the limit. Thats why I want a 30 at least. I suppose Rams in a twenty would work.

Re: Corys spawning
Rams, apisto, keyhole, dwarf acara, chequerboard cichlids and rainbow cichlid will all work in a 20G But having a tank above 40G will mean you could get away with 2 or 3 different pairs and anything over 50 and you could have a bigger pair of cichlids.

Sorry about leaving you hanging for a bit. Got sidetracked under the stairs. They were the cichlids. Fairly light in color.
