Ive the rack up. Its 2 shelves high and will have 3 tanks on each shelf so 6 over all. 1 of them will be a 10G sump the a 15G tank for the adult BNs then for the other 4 im going to use storage boxes because there cheaper and easier to drill.

Nah i didnt make it we found on in the garage that was 180x50cm and the first shelf is 10cm of the ground ( i would have preferred to have it on the ground but it didnt go that low and the second shelf it 67cm high so more than enough room to get in at them. Atleast this should be alot stronger a it has a metal frame with panels of wood across it. And its in the garage so i still have space in my room lol. I still need to drill the tanks but ill do that when i get back from holiday.

Well don't forget about the fish in the garage when you're done assembling
everything! Won't be as handy but you'll have more space for some additions in your room. More tanks on the list I imagine!

Well ive found 3 storage boxes that are 12G just need 1 more now. Ive desided i cant get rid of all of my cats so im going to work a few into the stocking in on the rack.
the plan is the bn fry will get moved to the next tank along every time a new lot of eggs are layed
tank 1 = 15G = 3 adult bns and new born bn fry plus 8 panda cory
tank 2 = 12G = pair of apisto plus fry if the breed (and maby the 6 hatchets or pair of killis)
tank 3 = 12G = grow out 1 for bn fry plus 6 pygmy corys
tank 4 = 12G = grow out 2 plus 1 male apisto (could never part with him)and 3 upside down catfish
tank 5 = 12G = grow out 3 plus banjo catfish
tank 6 = 10G = sump
but ill have to part with the breeding group of pepper corys but im not to bothered as i was thinking about getting rid of them any way. I know it looks quite heavy stocked but it will have atleast a 10X turn over and daily WC and a sump which should help with the water quality.

I dont know whether i should just go for 1 200w heater in the sump or go for something like 4 50W heaters spread out. 4 50w will make the temp more consistent but then theres more that can go wrong.

I think i'd just go with a 200w heater, but then i've never had a sump so don't know how inconsistent 1 heater would be versus 4 lol!

Well its not so much because of the sump its just the water will only be getting heated in 1 of the 6 tanks so buy the time the waters gone through a few of the tanks it might be alot colder.

If the 200w heater goes you won't have any heat at all for any of the tanks.
You would also have to put the varying temps in order to. I think its a toss up!

i'd also go higher than 200watt.. fine in summer but winter you will struggle to maintain temps if not in heated room

or atleast be prepared to expect to add another 200watts heater to the sump when it hits winter on top of the 50watts in some tanks

My barracks during winter with loads of tanks, i have the two sumps at 32 degrees to maintain 25-27 in tanks and thats with a full room using prob around ten tank heaters over other various individiual tanks and I still have an oil filled radiater on 18degree thermostat just in case.

the fish room is approx 3 x 2 x 2m (air raid shelter) with foot thick walls and has 3"thick polystyrene sheets insulating the roof which is thinner.

You think of everything, Kel! I don't think many people can admit to building an air raid shelter to protect their fish lol.
You're right on the temps though. I have a heater in a four foot tank and there's a 2 degree difference from one end to the other. I'd hate to see the difference over 6 tanks!

I think i might just keep my eye out for a tank about 60G and divide it instead and use the 15G for a sump.

I think i might put bid in on this
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
its a bit taller and not as long as i would of liked but its not to bad and alot bigger than the 30G there in atm. I can make a proper lid and fit a light for it and with a good clean it should look alright.
