For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
Sooo, finally have some half decent pics of one of my divided tanks. I divided it into 5 after having an unexpected arrival
usually i'd leave it at 4 to give them about 17l each, but they don't seem squished so they should be fine until I divide my next tank up

Jessie - think you wanted to see how I had filter. I just have it pointed towards the other end of tank, that way they have a current-free area towards the front of the tank (where they sleep in their plants)

Think I need to ask nicely for more coconut caves from Kizno
Couple of the inhabitants

This dude's tail is getting fuller, it looks like little petals, he's adorable

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
Very nice
I would add a bit of pipe of the filter out put to the other end of the tank because imo that doesnt look like it will get enough circulation to the other nd of the tank.
How many caves do you want this time? lol
where the last ones alright i cant remember asking you if they posted ok.

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
Thanks! I've checked and the water hits the glass at the other end and has a current coming round from the back to the front. I have a test kit so I keep my beady eye on the situation
But eventually the filters will be changed as these ones take up too much room, need external.
It's killing me having 2x 3ft and 2x 30l tanks sitting outside
must. have. more. BETTAS!!! Moving the puffers into a divided tank has really freed up space.
Hmm could prob do with another 6 caves. Those other ones posted great, they arrived really fast too, i was shocked! They all love them, don't see them in this pic as i had them out to clean them up a bit, the cabombas are moulting as you can see
i'm terrible with plants!

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
UGH and java ferns and vallis and cabomba are meant to be easy *snorts* well not for me. Well... I have the excuse that my sevs ate ALLL my java ferns
but I still manage to kill everything. Going to but some moss balls... at least they might have more of a chance
Yeah the tank sizes needed for each puff meant I could divide up a 4.5ft tank for them that I got from my mum (was ex display from closing down place - very handy). Makes it really easy to keep on top of their water as they're all in one place and their feeding/cleaning routine is more simples!
just one tank to do large w/c's on
I think I had 8 last time, but I trust ya, whatever the price is it'll be cool with me

Your split tank is looking good! Eventually I want a 20gl US long split into fourths, but I still need to learn more.

im not a plant expert, but your plants seem to be in the same packaged tags/clumps/rubber bands from the store. as far as I know you should take the bands off and seperate the roots a little to give them a little more space or else they will rot.

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
Newfishy is right about the plants. Cambombas can be floated until some roots start growing, then planted. They like light to reach all the way down the stem to stop the dissolving.
They're not the easiest of plants, that's a common misconception due to their popularity. The finer the plant, the more difficult. But it's also a greater reward as they do look rather nice.

Iv got the Cambombas plants iv floated them all separately and iv noticed they all have thin white strings growing out the sides all are very green and healthy but was wondering what they are?? Do they latch onto nearby things?

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
They are the roots. The only thing they'd latch onto, really, is other roots once they're planted. They get into such a tangle. It's worse than trying to unknot your daughter's hair!

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
So why are they growing out the side of the plants and not the bottom? There are roots at the bottom.
If you look closely you can see the white string things:

Definately roots???

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
A lot of plants have these aerial roots that they send out. Were they floating before you planted them? That would explain why they're all pointing in the one direction - that used to be 'down' for them. Unless there's a strong current pushing them.
If you don't like them, you can snip them off, or trim the cabomba just underneath and plant again, so you'll have two plants growing.

Re: For Jessie and Nataliey - divided tank
Thanks so much for the pics Louisa!! I'm such a geek I got so excited when I saw you'd posted some. I've already been to Hobbycraft this morning for the mesh...looks like a long weekend of tank/fish fun for me...*heaven*!!! Your tank looks brill, I love the live plants, mine all have silk at the moment because I'm rubbish and can't face fertilizing them and making sure they get enough light etc. But when I divide up my new tank I'm going to get some moss balls to help oxygenate the tank and hopefully absorb some of the nasties.
RE the filter, I'll do what you did and have mine at the back pointing at the end of the tank to keep the front of the tank with less current. Mine freak out at the slightest hint of a current (in my 20L tank I had to put pantyhose over the filter or my VT would grump). I love it when they sleep in their plants, it's so sweet, mine like to sunbathe on the flat rocks I have as decos in their tank too.
@ Kizno: silver suggested putting hose/pipe at the end of the Fluval 2+ filter spout and have it run along the inside length of the tank, pricking it all along with holes so filtered water squirts out into each divide, and then block up the end of the hose with silicone as it reaches the end of the tank. Is that sort of the same thing you're suggesting?
I'm soooo grateful for all the advice from you guys :-)
Jess ^^
PS. Your boys are gorgeous, beautiful fins!

Yh sort of but i was just meaning run the pipe from 1 end to the other and dont worry about pricking holes or filling the end but either will work. This is how i did mine
