Theres still that 10gl.complete including meds, api liquid test kit, net, gravel pump, decor, etc. for $40. and she implied she might take less. Heater and filter!

Then theres a 20gl. long with hood for $25 which I would like to have. I was contemplating splitting it to four sections. For those I shouldn't mention!

either sounds good to me. But if you have the space the bigger the better and its cheaper so worth a shot.

The 10 is more practical because everythings is included but the water and stock.
The 20 I'd have to buy the heater, filter, etc. and would cost another $70 or so on top of the original $25.
Actually I'd like both!

Have you looked on ebay and places to see if you could pick up any cheap filters or heater. Shame your not closer because i have a few old ones you could have had. Both sound fine though so which ever will work. Just have to see how addicted you are and see if 2 will be enough or if you will want 4 haha

I could split my 10gl. for the two c/t's I have and then buy the 20gl. long for a small cichlid tank. Then I could put the peppered cory in with some more cory's and others.
Then I could add dwarf cory's (Pandas) to one side and cherry shrimp to the other side. Just an option Iv'e considered.

Sounds like you have it all planed out.
Theres quite a few cichlids that will work in a 20G
something like
trio of apisto 1male 2female
8 corys
8 tetra
that would work fine and alot like the stock i have in my 21G lol

Pandas are one of the smaller corys but there not a dwarf/pygmy. there are 3 types that would work in a 5G
corydoras hastatus

corydoras habrosus

corydoras pygmaeus (these are what i have)

I like all three just fine but I favor the pygmaeus at the moment. They come with built in stress stripes! lol! How many in 5gl(4uk)?

How many cherry shrimp in the other side? Someone selling them for 1lb each.

6 corys should be fine in there. I would only start off with 5-6 shrimp because they are likely to breed and once they get started theres no stopping them haha

Now I have to find a lfs that sells the pygmys as I prefer not to pay shipping.
Also that way I can pick my own out as Iv'e always been particular in my fish selections.

OR if you want something a little different in the 20G what about dwarf puffers? im thinking about getting some for my 21G instead of the dwarf pikes. 5 will be fine in a 20G but they do need live or frozen foods and snails to keep there teeth ground down.

this is what they look like

I've always like the puffers of all sizes. I saw one that had the same color and marking on the forehead as a friend of mines chihuahua. Almost looked like a photo! What are the puffer special needs?

Theres loads of types. These ones are freshwater and i think there about the only type you will able to have more than 1 of in a 20G They only get 1". they need live or frozen foods and need snails quite often to stop there teeth from over growing. they need lots of cover and hiding places. same as most tropicals they need a temp about 25C. they need lots of filtration because they are extremely aggressive.
This might help
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
but i dont agree that they only need 2-3G per fish 5G per fish its better but in bigger thanks you can get away with 3g per fish.

Ottos are still risky sometimes they work sometimes they dont. If you do try just make sure you have a back up plan incase it goes wrong.
hahaha

I change my mind the more I look around like a child in a candy store! Who knows what I'll end up with when the time comes.

I really wanted to vie for the 20gl. long but if I can swing the 10gl. complete
with just about everything I might go for that one. I'm getting tired of going to the lfs to get my water tested( twice a week)! More bang for the money!

I can take a chance on the 20gl. long being there in a while and if it isn't there
are always more 20's. I'm so confused! LOL!

Haha i know what you mean i keep changing my mind about what i wasnt to get.
Sounds good to me thumbup
I could do with getting a new test kit aswell. I havent tested my water in months but the thing is my waters always been fine all the fish are doing great so when the last one run out i still havent needed a new one.
If you have a look around im sure you can find heaters and filters for the 20G for fairly cheap.

If I just had a couple hundred dollars I could get both tanks, equip the 20gl. and start cycling. Then as that process is going, save stocking money and make a final decision! I need to get the tank(s) in hand! Oh my goodness!
