ALL the wood in the forest has bark on it though ... and the driftwood at petstores is most likely from the river anyway. and the river here is the ohio river lol so its a bit different than most rivers lol. I mean driftwood like with no bark and just like what you'd buy from the petstore. Around here its not hard to find

No it doesnt i got mine from the woods and theres plenty more with no bark on there.

why is rooting such a problem? or do you mean rotting?

Yh i ment rotting sorry bit tired. It will produce ammonia when it rots and will mess up your water conditions

im not sure what part of the ohio river you live by, but i would never put anything from that river in my tanks, i know here there is a lot of polution in the river. cant eat anything caught in it. it could be a lot better where you are if you are a good ways away from the part of it i live by!

Actually I live near a creek that runs into the river so its so much cleaner Smile

and I was just making a point that driftwood straight from a creek ( after boiling) could work. and we are in northern kentucky.

it about a 100 ft from my front door! yeah it could work, but like kizno said you will really need to keep an eye on it so it doesnt mess your water up. im in the northern panhandle of WV Very Happy

i personally havent ever put wood that wasnt from a pet store in my tanks, too worried that it may have something in it that would harm my fish and snails. kizno knows a lot about that sort of thing, he has done it so i trust what he says. you can always check on ebay, there are always some really good deals for driftwood there. or check craigslist, ive gotten a lot of stuff there for free tanks included!! post an add in the free section asking for driftwood for you tank!

i love craigslist, if you look around on there regularly you can find some great stuff for tanks cheap or free!!
