Re: Question about Betta in 3 gallon tank
The only heaters I've found so far that work for 3 gallon do not have thermostats -- they stay at one temperature -- usually around 77 or 78 degrees. I have a Tetra 2-15 submersible heater. I can return it if I can find a different brand that stays around 82 like you suggested.

Are you in the UK or US. Im not really to sure on what brand but you want a heater that is about 15W. A 25W might be ok but i think a 15 would be safer.

Thats a good point. I dont think ive ever seen a 15 watt with a thermostat. It might have to be a 25W heater then.

I have one of those Tetra heaters and was not impressed. I had it in my ten gallon and although its supposedly keeps at 80degrees it shut off before the factory temperature. I recommend one that you set manually as this will give you more versatility down the road.

Re: Question about Betta in 3 gallon tank
I've had my Tetra heater on for several days and to me, the water feels cold to the touch. Something isn't right. I thought I'd return the Tetra and get a Marineland Visi Therm 25 watt. Anybody have experience with those?

Re: Question about Betta in 3 gallon tank
Not personally but I'm looking at a Marineland mini filter for my 5gl. tank.
I'd pick up a floating thermometer( comes with suction cup) and place it in a central spot. Touch is not an accurate test as well as the markings on the heater sometimes.

i use a couple of the tetra heaters and have found that they tend to stay around 76F more often than not. you need to get a thermometer to be sure of the temp though. the water does feel cool even at 82F. 25W is great, i have the marineland stealth pro 250W in one of my big tanks and it works great for me. i also have a few aqueon heaters too that are working good for me too.
