New Ranchu :)

Post by Skunk on Fri Aug 13, 2010 7:51 pm

Went to MA today, expecting to just get some plants or some algae wafers for my apple snails. But ended up coming home with this beautiful Ranchu.

I was going to get two, but he seemed to be the only one swimming well, the other fish had their butts up in the air and seemed to be having difficulty breathing with their mouths constantly open.

Anyway, he's beautiful and settling in well, if not a bit shy. He's eating tetrafin Gold Japan sinking pellets, though I was told to only feed him one or two pellets once a day...is this right? I also feed my white clouds fish flake, freezedried daphnia and algae wafers for my apple snails

His home Smile though hiding!

Well, the temp gauge you can see on the tank says 23C, but of course they aren't very accurate, have put in my other floating one, so will let you know soon :P

Thats a good temp aslong as it stays fairly stable. Theres alot of fish that will do good in them temps. Hillstream loaches if the water if fast flowing, Alot of corys prefer lower temps, weather loaches and cherry shrimp will all work. Theres quite a few more but i wouldnt risk them with goldfish.

Smile yeh, very stable, I've only ever seen it at 24C or 23C, looking at getting another Ranchu like I said, and wouldn't want to overload the tank as it just has an undergravel.

Fair enough. Sounds good to me. I just noticed the water level looks quite low. Is it normally like that? i normally fill to about 1" below the top.

Yeh, it is usually about 2-3" higher, but because of the problem with the apple snail I decided to add less water when I did a water change. Just in case there wasn't enough room above the water before.
