LFS Rant

So, I was at work today and had to take one of the kids to the city for something. While in the city, I thought I'd visit the bigger branch of Aquarium Services, as this store has live reptiles also. I wandered around, marveled at how BEAUTIFUL the reptile tanks were and proceeded on to look at the fish. Discovered this store has halfmoons, and had I any money, would've come home with a beautiful apricot male.

I then happened to walk over to the females tank. I looked down at the price first and had to do a double take as on the price tag it stated "Short Finned Bettas. Male and Female. Ask for help". I looked at the tank, and sure enough, it was a tank full of about 45 fish...90% males! I was livid as I watched them display at each other, and sulk around in corners and by the sparce plants. A lot of them were missing scales and pieces of fins. I couldn't believe that the store chain that has always seemed so knowledgeable and fair could do this! This is the store chain that I"ve heard refuse to sell someone a fish because they didn't have the right equipment/size tank. Yet they had these poor PK males all in the same tank! The VT males all had their own little jars, and the HMs were in a barracks with nice sized sections.

I had to leave the store before I caused a scene. Still can't believe it! Poor fish.

I'm sorry you had to witness that. Well maybe an anonymous phone call would do the trick. That way if you can't contain yourself...hang up!
